Now that the rain is gone- Return of the drop off lane on Irving- Front of School
- Drop-off Lane- A Drop-off lane will be available on Irving starting on January 10th (day we return from Winter break). Drivers are encouraged to pull as far forward in the drop-off lane as possible. Students ONLY will exit the car and walk onto campus.
VALET DROP-OFF COORDINATOR:
In Years past we had a highly successful school valet drop-off program. We are currently in the process of trying to get the program up and running again...And We Need A Coordinator! This program can be organized a number of ways, the possibilities are endless. The coordinator does not need to be present every morning, it can be coordinated from the comfort of your home at a time that works for you. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Mr. Chabola or Mr. Raber (310-842-4338 or caseychabola@ccusd.org or brianraber@ccusd.org or in the school office).
- Parking- I know it is difficult to find parking around Lin Howe. We recommend parents either walk/scoot/ride, park a couple of blocks away and walk the couple of blocks, or use the drop off lane. Please do not park in the teacher/staff parking lots. When parents park in these lots, teachers and staff do not have available parking and as a result, can be late or may not be able to leave. This causes a negative impact on our students' learning.

CCUSD Environmental Sustainability Committee (ESC)
Our Environmental Sustainability Committee (ESC) is a group of parents, students and school officials who collaborate to improve our environment and schools. We are fortunate to have Superintendent Quoc Tran, CCUSD Board members Stephanie Loreto & Kelly Kent and other District leaders as committee members.
At our last meeting, on January 12, we discussed Earth Fest 2023, which will be on April 22, 2023 at El Rincon Elementary. All Elementary schools are encouraged to participate in this free event and sponsor one activity/booth which will contribute to the event. Some ideas include, hosting a Buy Nothing Bazaar, Running The Event Bike Valet, Organizing a Gardening booth. We are open to hear your ideas! We want to make sure that your school is included in this important day and that your students and families really feel welcome. Earth Fest was a HUGE success last year and the move to make it district-wide with our elementary schools includes you!
Our Committee also began discussing how to reduce the massive volume of waste we generate through food services. While our District has been moving away from plastics we still put over 4,000 paper trays, spoons, plates and plastic packages into our waste streams every single day. On January 12, we received a presentation from Buoy, a company that creates reusable plastic food service items from recycled ocean-bound plastic. We will continue to explore whether this is a workable system for our District.
To attend the next sustainability meeting or for more information about the above issues, please email emlsgreencommittee@gmail.com.

Parent Volunteers Needed: Help our students reduce and recycle their lunchtime waste!
Parent Volunteers Needed: Help our students reduce and recycle their lunchtime waste!
Every day, all of our kids eat lunch at Lin Howe and have to figure out what to throw in the green, blue, or black bins. We'd like to help teach and train everyone to sort their trash correctly, so that the green bin waste can actually become compost, and that any recyclables actually get a chance to be recycled! Currently, kids are not sorting correctly, which results in everything going to the landfill.
Here's our plan:
We have enlisted our Green Ambassador students to help their classmates sort for the last few minutes of their lunchtimes. They get to wear a green apron and take pride in their special responsibility. If any kids need help figuring out which bin their trash goes into, the Green Ambassadors will be there to help. Our Green Ambassadors will start helping out at their lunchtimes the week of January 23, and we figured it'd be helpful to have some parents present to help get the system running smoothly.
Come help out! Email jenchyi@gmail.com if you can come to lunch (11:30-1:30) any day next week.
