A Message from Nurse Love
Hello Morningside families!
I wanted to reach out regarding a small but important matter. We've had a few spills and accidents and my supply of extra clothes in the nurse's office is starting to run low. While packing an extra outfit is something usually done in kindergarten, it would be helpful if we could encourage our 1st and 2nd grade families to pack an extra set of clothes in their child's backpack, just in case.
Thanks so much for your support!
Lost and Found
We have many items in our lost and found! If you think any of them belong to your student, please have them pick it up from the stage in the cafeteria. We will keep these items until Family Night on October 24th.
Thank you for your help!

Cub Camera
Don't forget to turn in your child's media release form! This will allow us to capture and share all the fun and exciting moments your Cub experiences at school. We can't wait to celebrate their accomplishments and adventures with you!
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
Each morning our students participate in a Daily SEL Conversation with their teachers. The conversations help students work on self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision making, and relationship skills. Below are the SEL Conversation Cards we used during the months of August and September. We would love for you to use these conversation cards at home to ask students what they learned about these topics and to help them grow in these areas, too.

Attendance Matters and We Need YOU HERE!
Did you know?
Attendance plays a MAJOR role in a student's success.
· Students who do not regularly come to school perform lower academically than their peers.
We LOVE having a building filled with Cubs and want to see everyone every day!
We would like to encourage our families to still have their children attend school on days they have routine appointments, especially if the appointment is not all day. You are more than welcome to bring your child in late or pick them up early for appointments. Many of you already do this, and we appreciate you for making school important.
Transportation Updates
Bus Expectations
Parents, please review these expectations with your child(ren).
Students who do not follow these expectations, may lose bus privileges for a period of time.
Car Rider Line
Thank you for following our car rider line procedures! Your cooperation helps keep all of our students safe and the process running smoothly.

4th Grade and 5th Grade
We are so excited to be back at Morningside with our 4th and 5th grade students! This year is going to be filled with new adventures and lots of learning opportunities for them.
In Reading this year, students are going to have a great time exploring stories about historic events, fictional cities, and survival instincts. They will also be challenged to expand their writing and research skills. Fourth graders have been hard at work reading informational texts and learning about the human heart, while 5th graders have started exploring Early American history with Westward Expansion and Native American tribes in the West.
In Math, we started the year by exploring the world of Numbers and Number Sense in 4th grade and Probability and Statistics in 5th grade. We will continue in these units and have our first Unit Tests coming up shortly!
In Science this year, 4th and 5th grade will be exploring what it means to be a scientist, learning about and applying the scientific method, reading about how science is all around us, and more! We are finishing up our unit on Matter, learning about the “building blocks of life” throughout the month of September and will move on to learn about weather here soon.
In Virginia Studies, 4th graders have been learning all about the basics of Virginia’s geography. They are mastering the knowledge of bordering states, major water features, and the defining regions of our wonderful state!
As a reminder, 4th graders participate in Dance Espanol every Tuesday morning. Please make sure your students wear tennis shoes on Tuesdays so that they can participate fully in these lessons with Senor Pedro.
5th Grade will begin DARE lessons with Officer Palmer and Deputy McGhee on Tuesday, October 1st!
