In like a lion...

Hi all,

Hope your week is off to a great start.

I can't believe it's already March! As the saying goes, "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb."

There are 47 days left in the school year. That means 47 days left to make an impact on your school's energy and resource use!


From energy audits, school tours, and data analyses at Altura Elementary to water conservation diagrams and exploration by 5th graders at Lansing Elementary, our students are leading the charge for environmental stewardship through engaging learning experiences!


Speaking of learning, I thought I would remind you all about some upcoming workshops (THIS FRIDAY March 10th!) available to teachers interested in project-based learning and connecting outdoor education to curriculum. Please see below and register in SABA!

We're here to serve you and help assist with any energy & water conservation projects, school garden and waste programs, and supporting environmental stewardship at your school!

Spotlight on energy use at Altura

Altura students participate in school-wide Energy Day!

Students at Altura participated in a school-wide energy day to learn more about energy use at their school.

The day included a tour for 5th grade students of the school's boiler room and how the energy, heat, water and air travel around the school.


Followed up by creating light switch tags and posters to reduce energy use.

Mr Scott, Master HVAC Tech for APS, answers questions about the HVAC systems, career opportunities and salaries in this field, and helped to identify ways to reduce energy with student efforts.


All students earned an Interaction badge for their participation and efforts.

Students from Lansing Elementary got a special presentation from Aurora Water expert, Viviana Zavala.

The model demonstrates an urban area and how water and is affected by farming, urban centers, factories, and neighborhoods.

Future water conservationists!

All students earned a "Simulation" Badge for their efforts to understand water conservation, drainage, transport, and source identification with Aurora Water experts.

Denver Urban Garden experts will be leading a PD designed with the school garden in mind. Come attend and connect with fellow teachers for a hands-on training at North Middle School's DUG garden with Literacy Curriculum in mind.
