Auditions for the 2025-26 Ambassadors' Swing Choir
Ambassadors is a high intensity Jazz Ensemble with a longer and more in depth audition process. In this group, we perform all over the state, sometimes even going to competitions across the country! On average in this group there are 8 concerts, and in a year we learn a lot of music. If you’re even a bit interested in singing, come and audition! Auditions will be 2/25, 2/26 and 2/27.

Other Vocal Music Groups 24-25 Audition Information
Bella Voce is an all women’s choir for people who are interested in singing but want a more relaxed schedule. Due to its smaller size, this choir has a really strong sense of family and connection between all members. Many of our members often talk about how Bella Voce is a great stress reliever, a fun class to participate in, and is a great way to meet new people. On average this choir has 3 concerts a year, and sometimes more; with pep assemblies, football games, and visiting locations around town to perform! The audition process for this choir is a basic voice check. If you want to audition, email Mr. Wright (the choir director) at bwright@fentonschools.org and ask about Bella Voce.
Varsity Vocals is an advanced mixed choir for anybody interested in singing with friends. This choir is typically our biggest choir, and it’s a lot of fun. Like Bella Voce, this choir is an easier load but still challenging. Varsity Vocals, like Bella Voce, has an average of 3 concerts a year. On top of that, we are often asked to go to FHS pep rallies, sports games, and other places to perform! Varsity Vocals is a very interactive class where we don’t only sing, but we make great friends, get the chance to relax during the school day, and meet upperclassmen to help you out on your high school journey. The audition process for this choir is a basic voice check. If you want to audition, email Mr. Wright (the choir director) at bwright@fentonschools.org and ask about Varsity Vocals!

Work Permits
Under 16 years: https://www.michigan.gov/leo/bureaus-agencies/ber/wage-and-hour/work-permits
Age 16–17 yrs: https://www.michigan.gov/leo/bureaus-agencies/ber/wage-and-hour/work-permits
- Beginning April 2, 2025, HB 5594 will change work-hour restrictions for 14- and 15-year-olds to align with federal law, limiting them to 3 hours per school day, 18 hours per school week, and 40 hours per non-school week, with work allowed only between 7 AM and 7 PM (or 9 PM from May 31 until Labor Day).
- Effective on or before Friday, October 2, 2026, the process for issuing and revoking minor work permits will shift away from schools to the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) through a new statewide online registration system.
- There will be some additional, minimal process for employers and minors (or their parents), as well as a new database of authorized youth employers available online, but that process will be handled entirely by LEO once they take over the work permit system.
- MASSP has been in contact with LEO about this shift and anticipates a detailed implementation guide from the state later this winter as the first effective date approaches.

Inclement Weather Season - Message from Superintendent
Inclement Weather Season - Message from Superintendent
With the holiday season upon us, it's that time of year when we start preparing for possible inclement weather and the possibility of school cancelation. Please take time to plan for what you and your family will do in the event we have to cancel school. The district will always attempt to make decisions in time for you to use your plans optimally; however, sometimes with mother nature and the weather patterns in Michigan it doesn't always go as we'd all appreciate.
Please take a look below at the process for a weather cancelation and understand that we try our best to ensure student safety above all else.
A. We monitor the weather, and if severe weather is predicted, as superintendent, I along with the help of our transportation/operations department, local road commission and law enforcement evaluate potential issues.
B. As superintendent, I collaborate with Genesee County Superintendents to make decisions based on the road conditions for our area currently and/or in the near future.
C. We as a district will notify designated individuals in the event of a school closure to then disseminate information as quickly as possible.
D. Families can check: the district website, messaging through our FAPS app to phones in the form of voice, text message, email message, district Facebook, and news stations (ABC 12, WNEM 5, NBC 25, Detroit Fox2).
When the weather breaks and road conditions are in question, remember to leave early and drive slowly. Also, ensure your contact information is updated with your school so the district can provide the most efficient communication.
As we enter the winter doldrums and students/families spend more time indoors, cabin fever sets in. Please remind students they have access to the Counseling Office and Easter Seals at Fenton High School when they are struggling academically, socially, or emotionally.
For more information, please call the FHS Counseling Secretary, Kim Stapp at (810) 591-2612 or email kstapp@fentonschools.org.
