Principal's Corner
Dear Eagle Community:
I’m excited to announce that I will be the New Principal of Woodville High School. It is with sincere pleasure and honor to become a member of this great school community. Woodville enjoys a rich history of academic and cultural excellence that is the result of a collegial partnership between the school staff and parents who provide a diversity of experiences for the students. During my transition into Woodville High School, I have indeed found this close working relationship and focus upon what is best for children to be true. I am truly honored to be appointed to this position as Campus Principal and am looking forward to working with the dedicated staff to provide the best possible educational program for our students.
Before coming to Woodville, I held the position of Assistant Principal in Del Valle Independent School District in Austin, TX. Although my former school district was very large in comparison to Woodville, what I find comparable is the child centered approach to education that characterizes both districts and results in striving for an excellent school program. In addition, parents and staff who collaboratively work together each day for the students is the exemplary quality that attracted me to Woodville Independent School. I am very excited to be a part of the Woodville High School family and to closely work with everyone to make our school even better.
My greatest initiative is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment to provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each student to the best of our ability. The educational program must be academically challenging, engage each student by linking the curriculum to previous knowledge and experience, and also be exciting to promote further exploration of new ideas. Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to encourage our children to become active learners. It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the skills to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society. Through a close and collegial partnership with everyone associated with Woodville High School, I am confident we can make our school thrive.
Respectfully,
Ron Zachary
Principal
Woodville High School
Attendance Is Important
The state of Texas requires students to be in attendance 90% of each semester. Credit denial occurs for each class after nine (9) absences for a fall semester class and/or nine (9) absences for a spring semester class, regardless of whether the absences were excused or unexcused.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90 percent but remains at least at 75 percent of the days the class is offered, you and your child are required to meet with the Principal/ Assistant Principal to implement a Principal’s Plan of Action that provides for your child to meet the instructional requirements of the assigned course. Upon successful completion of this plan, credit or a final grade may be reinstated to the student.
Attendance Appeal Application Procedure:
If the student fails to successfully complete the plan, or when a student’s attendance drops below 75 percent of the days the class is offered, the student, parent may request award of credit by submitting an attendance appeal. The Attendance Appeal Committee will review your appeal application and determine whether or not to grant you your appeal for credit. Petitions for credit or a final grade may be filed at any time the student receives notice but, in any event, no later than 30 days after the last day of classes.
