FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to Term Two at Padbury Catholic! I hope you and your families managed to enjoy a happy and relaxing holiday break. We certainly were blessed with some beautiful weather in the second week - a nice way to end the holiday period. I hope your children managed to take the time to recharge, ready for what is shaping up to be a fantastic term of learning!
Term One ended with several wonderful events that I would like to make note of:
Firstly, in Week Nine of last term, the Dads and Daughter's Hair Salon was an outstanding success, with a huge turnout, and it was great to see all those dads practising their hair skills on their daughters! I definitely saw some hairdressing experts in action! This was a fantastic initiative as part of the Padbury Extraordinary Father's League and I would like to thank Simon Pearce for his coordination of this event, as well as Vicki Kay for her hairdressing expertise.
Term Two is always a big Term, and this year is no exception. In the first two weeks alone we have our Year 3 students leading us in an ANZAC Assembly at 2:15pm this Friday, Kindy Mother's Day Afternoon Tea, Mother's Day Assembly, and Board and P&F Meetings. This term also sees the Sacrament of Confirmation for our Year Sixes, as well as Winter Sports, and Cross Country training and events, not to mention school reports!
Another event this term is NAPLAN Testing, which is just around the corner in Week Three. As previously mentioned, our Year 3 and 5 students will be completing the assessments online (on iPads) this year (excluding the Year 3 Writing Test). NAPLAN provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests. The tests are just one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process; they do not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance. More information can be found further in the newsletter.
As Term Two begins, it is timely to remind the school community that as students arrive at school in the morning, they should head straight to their classroom area and be seated outside their classroom, chatting with their friends, until the classroom door opens at 8:30am each morning. This week teachers have reminded their classes about this, and we have a teacher on duty from 8:15-8:30am each morning who will be walking around the classrooms to ensure students are following this school rule and staying safe before the school day begins. Can I please ask for your cooperation with this matter, by reminding your children to be seated outside their classrooms upon their arrival at school. A reminder that supervision by the duty teacher begins at 8:15am, so we encourage students to arrive at school after this time.
Mother's Day is nearly upon us, and I encourage all mothers to join us at school next Friday, 10th May for the annual Mother's Day Breakfast, starting at 7:30am in the Hall, followed by a special Mother's Day Assembly at 9:00am. A flyer, with more details, can be found below in the P&F Section of this newsletter. My thanks to the P&F for coordinating this wonderful event and the Year 1 students for preparing the Mother's Day Assembly. I wish all Padbury mothers and grandmothers a Happy Mother's Day, and hope you are spoilt by your children this year.
A reminder that during Term Two and Three full school winter uniform must be worn.
I have enjoyed speaking with our kids throughout the week to find out about their holiday break, and look forward to seeing the wonderful things they will do this term as part of the amazing teaching and learning programs that are offered at Padbury Catholic.
Have a fantastic term ahead!

Waste Free Wednesdays - this Term!
Every Wednesday we are running Waste Free day at school.
Our waste free lunch program educates students about where our waste ends up and how we as individuals, can reduce the amount of waste we generate and send to landfill. Waste free lunches encourage the first step in the waste hierarchy - AVOIDING waste.
Choosing products that have less packaging, results in less waste that you have to dispose of.
It not only makes good environmental sense, but it makes good economic sense too. Waste free lunches are often cheaper and in most cases a lot healthier too!
