M5 World War II
Lesson 5
The Start of World War II
World War II began in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland, marking the start of one of the deadliest conflicts in history. The invasion prompted Britain and France to declare war on Germany, igniting a global conflict that involved countries from all over the world. The war was fueled by complex political tensions, territorial ambitions, and aggressive expansionist policies. As the war unfolded, new alliances formed, territories changed hands, and millions of lives were forever altered.
During World War II, America became involved after the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan on December 7, 1941. This tragic event prompted the United States to join the Allied forces in the fight against the Axis powers. The country mobilized its resources for war, leading to significant changes in production, employment, and everyday life. As American troops fought on the battlefields of Europe, Africa, and the Pacific, the home front also played a crucial role through rationing, victory gardens, and support for the war effort. The involvement of America in WWII altered the course of history and shaped the world we live in today.
