Friday 14th February
Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Parents and Carers,
Half-term break is upon us and we can see that the children are now ready for a little break so hopefully everyone will benefit from some rest and downtime next week.
Upcoming Parents’ Evenings - Booking system opening
There will be an opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher/s on either Tuesday 25th February or Thursday 27th February to discuss progress since last term and ways that you can support your child with their learning at home. Miss Flowers will be sending out a link later today so please sign up. Please check junk mail in case the link does not come through.
There will be an opportunity to look at your child’s books as well on the evening so please allow some time for this either before or after your appointment. The meetings are set for 10 mins. Should you wish to catch up for longer, then please just arrange additional time with the teacher at a future date so we can keep to schedule as much as possible. Please do not change your time on the day/evening of the meeting as the teachers do not have visibility of these changes in real time. They will not be able to go and gather all your child’s books from the classroom. Parents’ Evenings will be in the downstairs classrooms or school hall depending on hall bookings.
Parent Governor Election
We are pleased to say that we had two excellent candidates apply for the Governor role at Sacred Heart. Both will be joining the governing board - one as a parent Governor and one as the Local Authority Governor. Their names will be confirmed next term.
Quiz Night
Thank you to the PTA for organising a such a fun quiz night at school. It was a quiz with variety of rounds and challenges for everyone to enjoy. Well done to Miss Wilding and her friends for all their efforts with quiz creation. Thank you to those who came along to support the event, to our mums from Bab Cha Food for their Authentic Korean Food and to Mrs Cleary for her legendary Pavlovas. All proceeds will go towards resources and enrichment activities for the children.
Payments
Budgets are tight for all schools so it is essential that parents play their part in helping school by paying their bills on time. Please ensure you are up-to-date with payments. Check ScoPay for current bills. Thank you.
Mrs Fogg – Class Music Teacher
We had a special assembly for Mrs Fogg on Wednesday to say goodbye and celebrate her time at Sacred Heart. Mrs Fogg finishes after 15 ½ years at school and will be greatly missed. We sang a few songs for her and shared cards and presents. Until Easter, Mrs Fogg will come to school on Tuesday morning to take the choir and provide instrumental lessons. School are currently seeking a new music teacher to fill this position.
World Book Day 6th March 2025
We are thrilled to announce that author Ned Hartley will be joining us for World Book Day! Ned has worked on some fantastic books and comics, and we are so excited that he will be running a special workshop with the children. Thank you to Mrs Ewbank for the introduction to Ned!
To make the day even more fun, we would love for both children and staff to dress up as a character from one of his many books or comics. Please take a look at home and see what you might already have or what you can put together.
You can find out more about Ned Hartley and his work by visiting his website https://www.nedhartley.com/
We can’t wait to celebrate this special day together!
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 24th February.
Have a safe and happy break.

Other News
Girls Football vs St John the Baptist
On the 4th February, the Year 5 and 6 girls went to SJB for a football match. We found it fun although we lost. The score was 8-0. The first half was 3-0 then the second half they went up by 5. One of their players was really good which made it difficult for us to score. We hope next year it will be different and the score will change, and we might be the winners.
Boys Football vs Stanley
The match started by Sacred Heart scoring the first goal. Minutes later, they scored the equaliser but then we scored 3 more goals to end the first half 4-2 to us! In the second half, we started to concede until it was level at 4-4. Then we conceded 2 more goals and the final score was 6-4. We were happy for playing and scoring 4 goals.
Year 3/4 Girls Football
On Thursday morning, we travelled by minibus to play 4 very fun football games. We ended up winning all of them and scored 15 goals altogether! The hardest team to play was Deer Park because they were a good team who worked together well. At the end of the tournament we received a shiny trophy and we went through to the London Youth Games (which takes place in March) where we will represent the borough of Richmond. We had the best time and want to thank Miss Flowers and Mr Wardell for taking us and supporting us all the way.
RISE Swimming Gala
We had the most amazing morning at Pools on the Park on Wednesday 5th February.
Three of our pupils raced against other pupils in the Borough of Richmond at the RISE Gala. We were delighted for them with their fantastic achievements. We won 5 GOLD medals in total and one 4th place. A big thanks goes to Miss O'Brien for her organisation and the team at RISE for offering the event. Mrs. T 😊
Boys Football vs St John the Baptist
On Tuesday we went to play SJB in a football match. They scored very quickly but we won a penalty and made it 1-1. They then scored 2 more goals before half time. In the second half we fought hard but SJB scored 2 more goals and the game finished 5-1.
Swimming Gala
On Thursday afternoon, Mr Wardell and Miss O’Brien took 9 swimmers (Sophie, James, Niamh, Thea, Liberty, Joe, Rowen, Hannah and Oscar) to participate in the Richmond Borough Swimming Gala. All the swimmers swam brilliantly well and we’re really proud of them! Preliminary results indicate a 6th place for Sophie and James in their respective Y4 Freestyle races, 5th for Niamh in the Y5 Freestyle event and a 2nd place for Hannah in her Y6 Freestyle event.
Faith in Action
Year 5 Caritas Work
Year 5 have been busy planning their next project. They have decided to focus on the Catholic Social Teaching theme of Preferential Option for the Poor.
They have planned a Book and Toy sale for 26th March 2025 in the play ground after school and a Sponsored Walk of 50 laps of the school playground on 3rd April 2025. The proceeds will go to Glass Door, a charity for the homeless in London that has links in our local community.
If you have any toys and books (in good condition) we would like to start collecting these after half term on Friday mornings. We will be sending out a sponsor form and link for the sponsored walk on our return to school after the half term break
Jubilee Year of Hope
Over the past two weeks at school we have been launching the Jubilee Year of Hope. A Jubilee or Holy Year is a special year of forgiveness and reconciliation, in which people are invited to strengthen their relationship with God, with one another, and with all of creation.
A Jubilee Year is celebrated by the Church every 25 years. This has been the case since 1470, when Pope Paull II changed it from every 50 years. A Pope can also proclaim an Extraordinary Jubilee, like the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy which Pope Francis inaugurated in 2015.
The theme of this jubilee year is Pilgrims of Hope. Pope Francis has invited Catholics to renew our hope and discover a vision that can ‘retore access to the fruits of the earth to everyone’. We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God’s creation in which we understand ourselves as ‘pilgrims on the earth’ rather than masters of the world.
Over the year we will have special lessons, liturgies and mini pilgrimages of our own to explore the theme of Hope. This week the children have been looking at the individual elements of the logo and what they might mean. The older children have been reflecting on its meaning.
Dear God,
Thank You for loving us and teaching us how to live.
You bless those who are kind, humble, and trust in You.
Help us to care for others, to share with those in need, and to always do what is right.
When things are hard, remind us that You are always with us and that true happiness comes from following You.
Please guide our hearts, help us to be loving and kind, and give us strength to do good every day.
Amen.
