The Mustang Family Weekly Update
October 7, 2024
MUSTANG BLUE!
To the Community of Natalia High School,
As we approach the end of the grading period, we want to remind you to check your child’s report card when it’s released. This is a valuable opportunity to review their progress and celebrate their achievements together.
Please take some time to discuss the report card with your child, highlighting strengths and identifying areas for improvement. Your support is crucial in helping them succeed!
Additionally, we want to emphasize the importance of regular attendance. Consistent school attendance is key to your child’s academic success and social development. If there are any challenges impacting your child’s attendance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to support you!
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education.

The Natalia High School Semester Exam Exemption Policy
Students in grades 9-12 may be eligible for semester examination exemptions based on
attendance, grades, and conduct.
Attendance/Grades
● The following grade/absence criteria must be met
o 9-week grades 80 or above in each class with no more than 3 absences per class period.
4 or more absences in any period in a semester exclude you from exemptions.
● Students must be present on the exam day(s) for the duration of the exam period(s) for which
the exemption is received. If a student fails to attend, the exemption will be voided, and they
will be required to take the exam on a date arranged through the NHS Administration.
Students must continue to attend class even if exempt from their final exam.
● The following will not count against the total absences allowed (By Code):
o E/F = School-related absences.
o M = Medical appointments that the student attended during the school day.
Students must return to school with a medical note on the same day.
o R = Religious holidays o L = License/Permit
o B = Approved College Visits o N = On Campus
o G = Military o 1 = Testing
● The following WILL count against the total absences allowed (By Code):
o U = Unexcused absences
o A = Parent Note/Doctor Note (If the student is out all day at a medical appointment it is considered an excused absence BUT will count against final exam exemptions for being out all day.)
● Conduct
● Students have no discipline infractions that lead to ISS, Suspension, or DAEP.
● Guidelines
Students who qualify for semester exemptions may be excused from taking the following exams:
● 9th-grade students may exempt two exams
● 10th-grade students may exempt four exams
● 11th-grade students may exempt six exams
● 12th-grade students may exempt all exams
Note: None of the above-mentioned criteria may supersede current requirements for Dual
Credit courses. Additionally, students may NOT be exempt from state-assessed courses in the fall semester; exemptions for state-assessed courses will apply only in the spring semester.
