From the Principal:
NEW Lunch and recess times are coming! We have received feedback throughout the year regarding a wish to switch lunch and recess so students have a few more minutes outside. We will be having a trial run of this new schedule in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Winter break.
Starting on Monday, November 27th there will be updated lunch times for both 5th and 6th grade. If you have signed up to eat with your student in the Collins Cafe after Thanksgiving Break please make note of these adjusted times. The Sign Up Genius will be updated with the correct times as well.
Have a great week!
Shelli LeBlanc

The Board of Trustees approved the cell phone committee’s following recommendation regarding the use of cell phones during the school day by students in grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grade:
- Cell phones and smartwatches may be used respectfully and responsibly before school and after school.
- Cell phones and smartwatches should not be used to capture video, audio, or images at school or on the bus.
- Cell phones and smartwatches should be set on silent mode and kept in backpacks, lockers, or other designated storage areas and should not be visible during school hours including instructional time, reward time, free time, lunch, and in the hallways.

UIL Academics
UIL Season is finally here! UIL is a super fun academic contest that helps students celebrate their accomplishments in different subject areas. We are super excited to kick off the 2023-2024 UIL Academic Season with tryouts beginning the week we return from Thanksgiving Break. Tryouts will be held in room 616. Each team is limited to 4 students per team in each grade level. UIL requires a weekend commitment in April with speaking events competing on Friday April 5th in the evening, and all other events competing all day on Saturday April 6th. Students are allowed to compete on a maximum of 2 teams each season. Students who make a UIL team are to be role models on campus in and out of the classroom. They also have to maintain eligibility based on UIL standards of keeping above a 70 in all of their classes. We are looking forward to a great competition season.
Referral Requests for Gifted and Talented Testing
Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or campus staff. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher.
Referrals will be accepted from October 2- December 15, 2023. The referral form is located below. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage. Please return to Lisa Lackey at llackey@conroeisd.net when complete.
Counselor's Corner
Thank you for participating in Generation Texas Week. Your students listened intently and actively participated with our visitors! We are so proud of our Collins Cobras!
As we approach the holiday season, we want our families to know we are here to support. This can be a tender time (for a myriad of reasons) and we are here to help. Please reach out to Mrs. McCure or Mrs. Deal if you need us!
Art
The art music rotation has just occurred and for all Cobras in art for the first time this year, we are looking forward to an exciting year of teaching art to your Collins child. We believe art education should be fun, empowering, but also relevant to our students’ lives both in and outside of the classroom. Our program is designed to develop and improve creative and technical skills in the beginner or experienced art student.
Below you will find a screenshot of the Collins Art fee in School Cash Online. If you have not yet paid for this school year we would appreciate your support of our program. This fee pays for supplies for both Art classes in the Art+Music rotation.
Mrs. Williams' class is debating if graffiti is an artform, learning about the infamous graffiti artist Banksy and trying their hand at a multitude of graffiti styles.
Students in Mr. Hunt’s class are working on their realistic drawing skills and are learning about artist Chuck Close as they work on creating a work of art using the grid method.
PE
That’s a wrap on our Pickleball unit! We had a lot of fun with quick games and playing King/Queen of the Court. The kids showed a great understanding of the game and support for other teams. When we return from Thanksgiving break, we will begin our DrumFit unit. We are excited to bring DrumFit to Collins this year! Our next Cobra cardio day will be December 1st.
