Message from Dr. Frischkorn
Good Evening Mayfield!
Thanksgiving is a great time to take a moment and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives. I always take the time to reflect on the fantastic opportunity that I have been awarded to serve the Mayfield Intermediate School community right here in the City of Manassas. Here are three areas that I'm incredibly thankful for as I reflect before our Thanksgiving Break that starts on Wednesday, October 24, 2021
Our Mayfield Intermediate Staff:
I'm so proud of the staff we have assembled here at Mayfield Intermediate School. I genuinely believe that we have one of the best staff around, and they are why our students are experiencing success this year. Teachers and support staff work tirelessly to ensure that our students are provided the support and care needed to continue growing socially, academically, and emotionally. Our entire team supports our parents as we work together to ensure that our students come to school every day ready to learn.
Our Mayfield Intermediate Students:
Our Mayfield Bobcats returned to school this year ready to roll and start learning. The past school year provided our students with many obstacles to overcome, and our students continued to work and show up for school virtually. When students returned to school, they returned with new experiences and an eagerness to be back in the school building. Our students continue to work with their teachers every day. When I walk through the classrooms in our fantastic school, I see students engaged and taking an active role in the learning process.
Our Mayfield Intermediate Learning Environment:
Last year we realized how much we miss teaching our students in person. When our staff and students returned this school year, I quickly realized what a fantastic learning environment our community gets to be part of daily. Our classrooms provide great space and opportunities for student collaboration. Our shared spaces provide students with additional areas to learn, communicate, discover and develop critical thinking skills. It's a beautiful and welcoming school building that should help make everyone excited to be here. Our staff and students are learning and growing in this positive environment and creating life-long memories with friends and colleagues. We hope that this incredible place provides everyone who walks through the doors with an opportunity to create a memorable Mayfield Moment that will brighten their day.
I always share how proud I am to be a Mayfield Bobcat with our staff and our students. This year I'm both proud and thankful to call this community home!
Always Learning

Winners of "If I were Mayor" Contest Announced
In partnership with the City of Manassas, some fifth-graders were presented the writing prompt, “If I Were Mayor.” Participating students were tasked to think big as they prepared their essays for the contest. Students stepped up to the challenge and far exceeded expectations with their essays, which highlighted their favorite things about living in the city while also visualizing how they would improve the community.
The top three winners, all Mayfield Intermediate students, were surprised with the news in class by City of Manassas Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger and Superintendent Dr. Kevin Newman.
Davis-Younger said the students’ essays “were absolutely heartwarming and real” and were a testament to how well-informed they are.
Each of the winners noted their love for their city. The first-place winner, Isabella, wrote about the diversity of Manassas.
“I love that a lot of people from a lot of countries come here to Manassas. I really love how they share their culture,” she said.
The second-place winner was Paola, and third place went to Giselle. Ideas to advance Manassas City included creating homeless shelters, improving recycling and green-living, promoting equal rights, and leading more beautification efforts. Isabella said she’d like to create adoption centers for children and animals, more children’s hospitals, and programs for English learners.
“I think she would be an excellent Mayor!” Davis-Younger said.
Each of the three winners were presented a gift card, and Isabella won an opportunity to shadow Mayor Davis-Younger at an event of her choice.
