Tip of the Month: College and Career- Summer Planning Ideas
Building a Resume
When your child enters high school, it is a great time to begin thinking about their resume, whether they have one established, or they're just getting started; compiling all of their accomplishments, interests, activities, and experiences becomes useful as they consider looking for jobs, volunteering, heading to college, applying for scholarships, or even asking for letters of recommendation.
Here are a few resources to help them get started:
College Visits
When students are building their college lists, it is so important to find the right fit. While that includes academic programs, finances, weather, etc., a few other major factors include the campus, the people, and the activities. It's important to see those in person, as that campus has the potential to be their future home for four years!

Senior Recognition Night
We look forward to recognizing and celebrating our Seniors' achievements, scholarships, and special awards. Students' regalia for the graduation ceremony will be presented that night. Families of students eligible for awards will have received invitations in the mail. RSVP for those NOT attending is requested ASAP to Karen McDaniel.

Graduation Rehearsal
All graduating seniors are required to attend the graduation rehearsal in order to prepare for the ceremony. This is a requirement to participate in graduation on May 26th!

Baccalaureate
This is an optional event, sponsored by the WKHS Activity Club, to celebrate the Class of 2024 and to kickoff graduation weekend. There will be featured performances and artwork by the seniors, as well as a keynote speaker and chosen parent speaker. There will be a reception following the program. All family and friends are welcome.
Guests will also enjoy a "Then and Now" slide show of baby pictures and current senior pictures. Will you be able to guess who is who? Parents/seniors can submit baby pictures and senior pictures (no later than May 3rd) through this Google Survey: CLICK HERE.

We will hold our Graduation Ceremony at the Columbus Convention Center to celebrate our graduating seniors! No tickets are required for the ceremony.

Common App Completion Workshop
The counselors will be hosting this workshop in order to walk next year's Seniors (Class of 2025) through the Common App. Please ensure your student brings their Chromebook or other device so they can begin working on their application. Information about additional offerings of this workshop will be provided to families in August.

For SENIORS
Congratulations! Thank you for letting us be part of this journey with you and your student! We are proud of your student and wish them the best as they move on to the next part of their journey.
If your child is planning to attend Columbus State and is a current CCP student, please be sure they follow the instructions to transition from a CCP student to a Columbus State student. They should have received an email from the Columbus State advisor regarding next steps.
If your child took any College Credit Plus classes and plans to attend a 4-year college in the fall, please ensure they have requested their transcript directly from Columbus State and/or Central Ohio Technical College (COTC). Click HERE for more details.
For JUNIORS
For those students who have signed up to take particular Honors, AP, or IB courses next year (24-25 school year), please ensure that they complete their summer assignments this summer. More information about the courses requiring summer assignments will be found on the homepage of the counselor website (wkhscounselors.com) beginning in June. **Students who choose to drop a class that requires summer work must do so before JULY 15th in order to be excused from the summer assignments. If they drop the class after July 15th, summer work must be completed and will be graded.
Worthington schools provides students the opportunity to earn credits over the summer, whether that student is recovering a credit that they have failed or if they are earning a new credit in a class they haven't otherwise taken. Please see more information about Summer School on our WKHS Counselors website. **If your student requires summer school to recover a credit(s) that they have failed, you will hear directly from your child's counselor with information about how to register.
The Dublin Worthington Rotary Club is looking for current Sophomores and Juniors to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) taking place this summer, July 13th and 14th at University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, Ohio. This is a two-day leadership conference in which students will have the opportunity to learn about themselves and learn from others as they engage with students from central and southeastern Ohio. Those students interested are asked to apply by Wednesday, May 15th. A link to more information and the application can be found HERE on our website's Summer Camp Opportunity page.
Juniors considering Employment after Graduation: Please consider having your student build their resume and gain work experience over the summer. In addition, there are a variety of pre-apprenticeship programs that run through WKHS for seniors. Please ensure your student speaks with their counselor if they are interested in learning more!
Juniors considering College after Graduation: Things your student should consider working on this summer:
- Building their resume
- Visiting college campuses
- Finalizing their college list
- Drafting their college essay
Juniors considering Military after Graduation: We will be administering the ASVAB each year, typically in January. If your student is interested in joining the military, let their counselor know so that they can sign up for this required inventory.
