3. Pick several to try this month, and schedule those on the calendar or someplace where you’ll remember to do them.
4. Add your own ideas as well! If you do one of these every day for a month, I guarantee that your community will be far wider, deeper, and stronger than ever before.
Surround yourself with good people.
By finding the positive, supportive, energetic teachers in your school and sticking close to them, you can improve your job satisfaction more than with any other strategy. And your chances of excelling in this field will skyrocket. Teacher Spotlight
Meet Mr. Everette!
Jawnte Everette is a proud 5th grade ELA teacher motivating and inspiring students at Wadesboro Elementary School in Anson County! His love and passion for his students is contagious as soon as you enter the classroom! Here is what his coach, Kyla Crews, has to say about him:
From the moment I met Jawnte at our New Teacher Orientation, I was confident in his ability to impact students in a positive way. When watching him teach, it’s evident that he has set high expectations for all of his students. Jawnte truly values both social/emotional learning and academics, and as a result, his students feel safe to take risks with their learning and express their feelings and opinions. I noticed right away that his students have a voice! In talking with Jawnte, his ultimate goal is to build a classroom culture where all students feel successful. In one of our conversations, he shared with me that he believes that ”ALL students can learn, just at their own pace” and he is prepared to meet them where they are and accelerate that growth. In my final thoughts, I believe a good teacher is also a good student. Jawnte is truly a learner at heart. Although he has some years of experience in education, he humbly reflects on his practices moment to moment and is so open to all feedback and trying new ideas!
We are in the early stages, however, Jawnte has already begun laying the groundwork for a successful year: attainable expectations, reflection with action, classroom culture, and relationships! He has been such a pleasure to work with so far and I’m so excited to see where he takes his students this year! Go, Mr. Everette!
