HES Destination Imagination Team
We are so proud of our Grade 3/4 Destination Imagination team, who performed last Saturday at their regional tournament in Stoughton. The challenge that the team has been working on is to build structures of only balsa wood and glue that will hold weight. In addition, the team must create a story about a (real or fictional) international issue that will be solved, all within eight minutes. The team has been experimenting with engineering and problem solving, while practicing teamwork, cooperation, and compromise.
Smile! Forsyth Dental Program was at HES this Wednesday, providing great care to our students who had permission to go. As always, they were "gental and genial"!
Family Survey: Change in School Hours 2017-2018...we have received about 200 completed surveys to date... Please take a minute to share your needs, thoughts and feedback.
Next school year, Monomoy Regional School District is changing the school day hours to best reflect the needs of all of our K-12 students. The anticipated elementary school hours are 7:45am - 2:15pm. Bus routes will begin shortly after 7:00 am.
The answers to this survey will provide input to the before and after-school programming at Harwich Elementary for next school year. Your input is very important, and we appreciate your time to provide us with this information.
Grade 3 and the "Bonnie Cabbage Program"
"Music Counts Every Day" at HES - Each morning as we get the day started next week at HES we will be listening to Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland.
Music for the week of March 27.
Many pieces of music have been written to describe the seasons of the year. Composers have tried to describe the changes in nature that happen as the year goes on.
Aaron Copland tried to find a kind of music that best described America, and in this music, he chose an area of the country that covers many states.
As we hopefully begin to get some spring weather, we will listen to some music by Aaron Copland.
Appalachian Spring has become one of his most popular pieces. It tells the tale of a young American pioneer couple who celebrate their springtime wedding and think about their new life together. The piece ends with the Shaker song ‘Simple Gifts’ and ends quietly.
The question this week is:
Which states does the Appalachian Trail go through?
Correct answers will get 2 bubbles/water drops.
The answer to last week’s question is Beethoven wrote Fur Elise.

Jacki Connery- Pre-K Instructional Assistant
My name is Jacki Connery, this is my third year at Harwich Elementary School, and my second year as a Preschool Assistant in the Integrated Program.
I was born and raised in Quincy, Ma. I attended Quincy Public Schools up until high school; I then attended Notre Dame Academy in Hingham. I graduated in 1998, and obtained an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from Aquinas College in Milton, Ma. I went on to obtain a Bachelors of Arts and Science, with a focus in Criminal Justice, from Curry College. After college, I worked as a Personal Injury Claims adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for 7 years. In 2008 my husband got a job offer on Cape Cod, and we picked up our lives and took a risk. We moved to Cape Cod with our children, where I was a stay at home mom until both children were in school full time.
I have been married to my husband, Jim, a police officer in Harwich, for 13 years, we have two children, Cameron (11) and Morgan (9). Both children are currently Monomoy students.
Both of our children are hockey players. So, in our spare time you can find us in a hockey rink, or on the lacrosse field with our son. When we are not in the rink you can find us on the beach.
My favorite part of working with preschool children is getting to know their individual personalities, and observing just how much they develop in such a short amount of time.
Mrs. Keith, Grade 4 Teacher
I am originally from Shrewsbury and graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1997. I grew up coming down to Yarmouth every summer and always knew I wanted to settle on the Cape. I started my college career at Bridgewater State for my freshman and sophomore years. I transferred to Lesley University and finished my bachelors in 2001. I also knew that a career with kids was the only thing for me. After college, I got a job working at Station Avenue for one year in fifth grade and then went to Bourne Middle School, where I worked for one year as a 7th grade ELA teacher. After teaching in Bourne, I got the job here at Harwich Elementary School in September of 2004. I felt so grateful and lucky to be part of the Harwich School District. I received my Elementary Education Masters Degree from American International College in 2009. This was the same year that I was blessed with my daughter, Emma. My husband, Emma and I live in Sandwich and feel so fortunate to have Emma grow up on the Cape. We are making many wonderful memories with our family and friends. During the summers, you can always find us with family and friends out on the off road part of Sandy Neck.
