Term 4 Week 6 - Thursday 16 November, 2023

Term 1 Week 1 - Thursday 6 February 2025
Prayer
Dear Lord,
As we begin this new school year,
We gather once again as your community of believers.
We thank you for the energy and the spirit
That you renewed in us through the summer months.
We thank you for the time to enjoy our family and friends
And to reflect on what is important in our lives.
Let this year be marked by enthusiasm and love so that,
With the inspiration of your Spirit,
We may continue to grow in our faith.
Help us to fulfill Your hope for us with honest intentions and works of faith.
Let us be gentle with ourselves and bring laughter, joy and love to others.
We ask this in your name.
Amen
Dates to Remember
Welcome to the 2025 School Year
Welcome back to the new school year! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break. I would like to officially welcome Miss Buck (Pre-Primary Teacher), Mrs Fernandes (Finance Officer) and Ms Tian (Education Assistant) to our staff this year. I would also like to welcome the students and families new to our school. I hope your time with us is rewarding and lifegiving.
Parent Information Evening
On Wednesday 11th February all classes from PP to Year 6 will be conducting their Parent Information Evening in the classroom. Each information session will run for 25/30 mins and will be repeated so as many families as possible can access the information. At the information sessions, you will find out about classroom rules and routines, teacher expectations, homework procedures and ways parents can assist in the learning process. The first session starts at 5.30pm and will be repeated at 6.00pm.
Recess/Lunch Time
This term we are trialling a 30min recess and 30min lunch instead of 20min recess and 40min lunch. The students will still have the same playing time throughout the day it’s just split up differently. One of the major reasons for this trial is we have noticed that the majority of incidents that occur during lunchtime happen in the last 10 minutes. We are hoping this change means less incidents, and students coming into class more settled. This we believe will help produce better teaching and learning outcomes. Students will also have more time to play at recess when the weather is cooler. As this is a trial for Term 1, I will communicate the outcome towards the end of the term as to whether this becomes a permanent part of the school timetable.
Alcohol Free for School Events Involving Children
Schools have a duty of care to ensure that supervision of children is appropriate at all times. Staff, parents and the school community have an important role to play when modelling healthy attitudes and behaviour towards alcohol, to children. After consulting CEWA and neighbouring schools it has been decided all school events, where children are present and/or which involve children’s participation, shall be alcohol free. This includes the Welcome Picnic, Christmas Concert and Yr 6 Graduation. The safety of all children who attend our school is of utmost importance and I thank you in advance for adhering to this request. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
P&F Welcome Sundowner 2025 - Friday 21st February
The Welcome Back to School P&F Sundowner for all families will be on Friday February 21. The P&F Sundowner is on the grassed area near the undercover area and will begin at 5.00pm. There will be a sausage sizzle, ice cream van, and we will be doing some painting for the 'Blue Tree Project' (see P&F section for more details). It promises to be a great way for our families to get together and start the new school year. So, get your picnic rugs ready for what will be a fun evening catching up and seeing the children having a great time!
Commissioning/Welcome Mass
Next Tuesday (11th February) at 9am in the church is our Commissioning/Welcome Mass to begin the school year. All families are welcome and encouraged to attend.
P&F Meeting
The first P&F Meeting for 2025 will be held on Monday 10th February at 6.00pm in the staffroom. Please come along and be part of what promises to be another fantastic year. Remember, as parents and carers, you are all members of the P&F. I hope to see you there on Monday evening!
Volunteering
The Government of WA have amended the Working with Children Act last year with the changes implemented to better protect children. Catholic Education WA has mandated this process for all volunteers, including parent volunteers in schools. This includes parents who wish to volunteer at sports carnivals, in classrooms and at P&F events. Could we ask that all parents fill in the Volunteer Declaration (link) even if you have no plans at this stage to volunteer at school. Your information will be stored securely in accordance with CEWA’s Information Stewardship. We highly value parent volunteers' time and contribution to our school community and thank-you for taking the time to submit the form below.
Any grandparents that wish to volunteer in the classroom or assist in the canteen will need a Working With Children Check. Please note this does not include drop off, pick up or attendance at our Grandparents Mass and Morning Tea. Grandparents that would like to volunteer at school, please contact the school office and we can assist you in the process.
Medical Information
To ensure your child’s well-being, the school requires that parents provide up-to-date medical information in regard to any allergies or medical conditions. If your child is allergic to bee stings, nuts, shellfish, eggs etc and may suffer an allergic reaction, it is paramount that the school is informed. Your doctor will need to provide an anaphylaxis plan with instructions that the school will follow. If your child suffers from asthma, a plan is also required for staff to follow in the event of an asthma attack. Anaphylaxis plans and asthma plans are to be presented to the office with medication to ensure that in an event of a medical incident, your child can be treated effectively. Any other medical information that may be relevant must also be presented in written form to the office. This information will remain confidential within the staff-teaching environment.
