Join us on Thursday, February 28 for our Festival of Learning! A fun-filled evening of math and literacy activities and games for families.

Enjoy the pizzas and salad you ordered or feel free to bring your own dinner.

Dinner will be from 5:00-5:45; activities from 5:45-7:15.

There will also be some fun baskets being raffled off. The proceeds will go to our professional development fund.

Please join us on Friday, March 1st for a delicious pancake breakfast. Everyone is welcome to wear their pajamas! Breakfast is $5 per person and the proceeds go to the PTO. It is always a great way to start the day. A huge thank you to Jenny Lambson and all of the volunteers that make the pancake breakfasts so special!

A parent gave me a brilliant idea! Chamisa teachers are excited about professional development opportunities this summer and are applying for grants to the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation and the PTO. We are also planning a Glow Run (5 and 1K run) to be held in April to raise funds for these opportunities. Her genius idea was that many families may have a plethora of frequent flyer miles and would be willing to donate a round trip ticket so a teacher can attend a conference.

If this is you, please call 663-2470 and let us know. I am hopeful this could work out. Thank you so much in advance for even considering this idea!

Teachers are hoping to attend the Units of Study in Writing and Reading conference in New York City and a Greg Tang workshop in Kansas City.

Conferences will begin Wednesday, March 13 from 1:00-3:30 and March 14-15 from 8:30-3:30. There will be no school for students on March 14 and 15.

Your conference schedule will be the same as in October. Many factors go into scheduling conferences, such as siblings, Special Ed teachers, and ancillary staff. We will do our best to accommodate rescheduling requests, but cannot guarantee.

Conference notices will be sent home on March 4; please be sure to check your student's take home folders.

So, a less than fun part of my job is to remind parents about our rules and procedures. Here goes....

Please don't send your students to school with phone watches unless they are in backpacks. I understand some parents feel more comfortable if their child wears the watch so they can track their child's whereabouts. Please feel confident that we are watching (no pun intended) out for all of the children and they are safe here at school. In addition, our school nurse sets timers to ensure students get their medications on time so parents don't have to worry about that, either. It is nice for students to be "unplugged" during school hours. They have plenty of time for devices outside of school.

We seriously appreciate our volunteers. We really couldn't do this without you. We would respectfully ask you not to be on your cell phones in and around classrooms while you are here. If you need to take a call or return a text, please step into the main hallway or outside.

In order to prevent accidents and to be courteous with one another, please drop your students off in the driveway area before the cones. That is the designated drop off point. Please do not stop in front of the cones, as this blocks traffic. If you are pulling into the parking lot, pull into a parking space. There have been times when people pull up behind cars and prevent other people from pulling out. The system should work pretty smoothly and help us have a great start to the day.
