March - Comes in like a lion and....well, you know the rest. If the folklore holds up then we should have a FABULOUS Spring break come the first of April.
Speaking of Spring - Sunday March 12 we "spring ahead" and change the time again. This time change is supposed to make us "feel" like we have more hours in the day because it will get darker at a later clock time. Personally, it doesn't matter to me which time we choose, I prefer we choose one and just leave it there. We have a lot of non-digital clocks in the school that require changing :)

This week's staff highlight features our lead custodian, Rena Oliver. Please read below about Mrs. Oliver and the amazing work she does at our school - not just keeping it clean but also, most of the maintenance that needs to be done as well.

Bullfrog Shirt Order Now Open
Shirts are paid for online and delivered to the school. When ordering please remember two things:
- Enter your OLDEST child's name in the comment field so we can deliver your shirts to the correct kids. If you are new to Bridge next school year please enter "NEW STUDENT and your child's name" in the comment field.
- Youth sizes MUST be preceded by "Y". A youth small is "YS". An adult small is "S". We do NOT have the ability to exchange any shirts that are ordered incorrectly or that do not fit. The school does NOT have extra shirts on stock.

Small Group Instruction - The Power of Personalized Learning
Small group instruction is a powerful approach to providing students what they need instead of the traditional method of one teacher providing the same lesson to classroom of 25 - 30 students and hoping that some of the students "get it". In educational circles this is often called the "spray and pray" approach. Small group instruction has a vast amount of research supporting it as a much preferred method of helping students exceed a year's worth of progress in a school year.
Groups are fluid. This means they change based on the needs of the students. With fluid grouping, students may move in and out of different groups depending on how quickly they are picking up concepts or skills. Students are assessed on Imagine Learning daily. While the program is delivering instruction, it is also assessing their abilities and teachers use the data to make instructional decisions. Students are assessed during Acadience progress monitoring for reading and math. Students are also assessed using formative assessment with the teachers during instruction. Formative assessment can be a quiz, a verbal assessment, a journal entry, an exit ticket, or even an observation. All of these pieces help teachers make informed decisions regarding the group your child should be in and the instruction that needs to happen while in that group.
Fun fact - our Bridge logo actually represents kids sitting around a table for small group instruction (see pic in the corner). Most people think it's a rainbow.

4th, 5th and 6th Grade Para Educators
Our para-educators work in the classrooms assisting students with computers, stations, specials, lunch and recess. Para-educators must pass a background check and have a minimum of an associate's degree or pass a para-pro Praxis test which they take through ETS.org Our para-educators work 29 - 35 hours weekly and holiday pay for five holidays. Full-time employees (working 30+ hours weekly) are eligible for benefits including access to 401 K and health insurance. Salary is based on education and experience and is $15 - $18 hour.
Kindergarten Teacher (Mrs. Hill is moving to 1st grade to replace Mrs. Langhaim who is joining our SpED team) Professional License required and LETRS training
4th Grade Teacher (Mrs. Arboleya has chosen to use her Level 2 math endorsement at another school for next year) Professional License preferred though will consider an LEA or AEL license for the right person with experience

Field Day Donations Needed
We are looking for donations for our game booths. Students play games and win prizes. These are not elaborate prizes. We are looking for simple things like you get at Zurchers, pick up in packs at the Dollar Store, or buy from Oriental Trading.
We also need tons and tons and tons of cans of soda for the ring toss. Please drop your donations off in the office and remember to enter your donations (converted to hours) into our volunteer tracker so your family can be place into our Frog Pond in the front foyer.
Custodian - Rena Oliver
Rena is the lead custodian at Bridge. She is also our primary maintenance person. Rena can fix or build just about anything. When Rena isn't working at Bridge she's doing projects for other people or businesses - fixing things and remodeling.
Rena also raises Vizslas - beautiful dogs with velvet-like fur. Rena is a widowed mom of four and a grandma of five. She lives in Roy with her daughter, their horses, dogs and chickens. When she isn't working or taking care of animals, Rena likes paddle boarding, boating, camping, and spontaneous road trips!

Online Lunch Payments
When payments are made online we must complete several steps to get the payments moved to Aspire. We do this every Monday and Wednesday. After we run the online report it takes another day for the money to post to your student's Aspire account. Please allow 3 - 5 days from the day you make the online payment to the day the information posts in Aspire.

Volunteers
- Cutting Watch Me Learn tickets (stop by the office)
- Pulling weeds in the rock areas and park strips (we have all the area in front of the school and up 4800 S along the school fence).
- Using rakes and shovels to redistribute the gravel from the bottom of the retention area in front of the school to the top area to cover the black landscape screen.
- Parking lot duty before and after school (just check in at the office, put on a yellow vest and talk to Travis in the crosswalk for instructions)

Once your family has logged 30 volunteer hours they will have a frog put into our Volunteer Pond in the foyer.
If you want to volunteer but do not have the time, you can donate $90 to cover the 30 hours. If you choose to donate, complete the volunteer form. You can donate in the office or by using our DONATE icon on the home page of our website.
Excuse an Absence
Title I
Bridge Elementary receives our Title I funding based on the percentage of students that qualify for free or reduced lunch. For this reason we encourage ALL families to apply for Free/Reduced lunch through Aspire to ensure every single student receives the services needed, including access to free or reduced meals if appropriate.
Title I provides avenues for parent input and participation. We do this through our surveys and the link to the form on our website which allows parents to submit questions and suggestions.
