Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families- Things started to feel different right away this week. our seniors are at that point in the year where they are breathing a sigh of relief. That is, if they hadn’t been procrastinating! Along with the relief are the emotions. Student to student, and teacher to student—strong bonds are created through the time and experiences that are shared. At the point of impending separation, just like for parents, it can be emotional. Senior week activities have been festive with their Sunset event and elementary walks on Thursday, a social ‘good-bye’ breakfast and graduation rehearsal today.
Friday culminated with their final celebratory walk through the Ridgeline halls, cheered on by students and staff. For most of them, when they walked out the door today, it will be their last time on this campus—maybe ever. That’s why during out time here with our students we want them to remember how we made them feel. Memories often fade, but feelings last a lot longer. We’re looking forward to an amazing graduation ceremony tomorrow, and the official final farewell to our seniors. A class who has been with us for all four years and have contributed in so many ways to create a special place here at Ridgeline High School.
During my other travels this week I stopped by Mrs. Hamlin’s biology class and enjoyed a presentation from Libby Shuster on xenotransplantation. What’s that you ask? It is the term for transplanting cells, tissues, or organs from one species to another. Most promising results so far are from pigs to humans.
Followed that up with a second presentation from Alysse Phelps and Natalie Thompson on Cloning. So, I learned a few new things this week! Same day I participated as a judge in Mrs. Demarest’s graphic arts class. Their assignment was to create a food establishment of some kind and create all the branding, marketing, menus, etc.. to sell their product. Great stuff from fancy foods to grab-and-go food and beverages. Kali Richardson had a nice restaurant/deli theme and we serving samples of BLT sandwiches. They were great, and the best part was that I ran into her in the office during lunch and she had a whole extra sandwich leftover, which she kindly passed off to me! Great timing, since I hadn’t packed a lunch that day.
We distributed yearbooks on Tuesday and that was a blast! It’s fun to sign yearbooks and take a moment with individual students to reflect on the year, or a culmination of all four years. I believe we did sell out of books.
Next week our freshman, sophomores, and juniors will have a lot more space in the hallways during their last 7 days of school. Hopefully they will have extra focus to get all their final projects and finals exams completed.
We hope to see your student on the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL. It’s true- there is no academic rigor to the last day. What’s important about it is “ending with purpose”. Finishing strong, together, and sharing in the joy and achievement of an amazing year—that’s our goal. Being with friends and teachers and participating in our school-wide campus parade to the stadium. There, we will gather on the field and do our final countdown together. That’s how you say good-bye.
Please take a look through the Flyer for other end-of-year reminders and other cool things our students are still accomplishing!
Make it a great weekend! –Mr. Hardt
