Something to Make You Smile Today
Don't forget to laugh and smile today!
Something to Make You Think or Grow
All of us and our students have labels that we silently carry but the positive actions, feelings of belonging, and being loved can change the negative labels. Do our families, friends, colleagues, and students know how we feel about them? If the answer is no, let's do something about it.
Cardinal Recognitions
Thank You To:
- Everyone who took the time to write positive notes to colleagues on the turkey feathers. I've truly enjoyed walking around the building and reading all of the amazing things we see in each other!
- Mr. Horvath for organizing a visit with 15 staff members from the Evansville School system, and to the teachers who allowed the groups to visit their sheltered and EL classrooms.
- Our Performing Arts department for the outstanding winter concerts. The performances are impressive and really get you into the holiday spirit.
- Mrs. Ferguson and the NHS students for decorating the hallways and adding the holiday cheer.
- Ms. Tasker for putting together the 12 days before winter break ideas..... who doesn't love 12 days of jeans?
- SHS 10th grader, Norah Hufnagel, for winning the district's holiday card decoration contest. This is the 2nd time Norah has created the winning design.

Thespian Group Qualifies for STATE!
Our thespian group competed at the Thespian Regional competition at Noblesville High School on Saturday. They performed "100 Things I Never Said to You." They performed, received feedback from judges, and attended workshops with four other area high schools. We earned 2nd place, received the Best Ensemble award, and qualified for the STATE competition! Congratulations!
They will perform their show at state in January at Avon High School with schools from all across the state!
A special shout out to Nienna Wittlief who received a Star Award from the Student Thespian Officers at the competition as well.
Student-Athlete College Signing Day
We had three amazing student-athletes sign their letter of intent to play sports in college on Friday in the Cardinals Nest. Thank you to the Athletic Department for arranging the event and for all the staff members, coaches, family members, teammates, and friends who came out to support the following students on this excting day.
Haidyn Coleman - Swimming @ Northern Kentucky University
Nick Godsey - Baseball @ Purdue Ft. Wayne
Sydney Hartman - Lacrosse @ Marian University
Career Fair
Thank you to the School Counseling Department for coordinating the career fair for our students. They were able to arrange almost 50 community partners to participate in the event and the setup allowed time for students to interact with the groups they were interested in. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!
Mr. Dever
Mr. Dever tasked his principles of business class with the challenge of removing a dead whale from a beach. Students worked together to brainstorm ideas and then create a risk matrix in order to choose the best possible solution for removing the dead whale. The students were using graphic organizers and color coding ideas based on practicality.
Mrs. Ellis
Mrs. Ellis’s students are learning about wants, needs, budgets, and other financial concepts. This is an important life skill so they went to the board to practice writing entries to track their spending.
Mr. Burke
Mr. Burke’s students are working on a lab to test the various effects of water on gummy bears. Using various types of water, they see the different types of effects on the gummy bears. The students are able to understand the tricky subject of osmosis while they are able to talk, read, and engage with the lab throughout the class to fully understand the information needed.
Mrs. Reed
Mrs. Reed’s students are labeling muscle groups on their skeletons. They have already labeled the skeletal structure, and now they are moving on to add the muscle groups on top! Students have to know the vocabulary/proper terms for all of the muscle groups and where they are located before they move on to the next muscle to ensure their body is put together the right way.
Mrs. Fowerbaugh
Mrs. Fowerbaugh’s AP Language Class recreated the Trial of Abigail Williams from Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. The students were working on the argumentation unit in AP Language. Students had to create arguments for the guilt or innocence of Abigail Williams regarding the hysteria that created the Salem Witch Trials.
Mr. Sanders
Mr. Sanders’ students are creating artwork on ceiling tiles to represent their knowledge of the Supreme Court. This project includes choosing, researching, and creating a representative design of historic cases.
Mr. Wissel
Mr. Wissel’s students are working on abstraction in their Intro to 2D Art class. Students are drawing seashells based on images that Mr. Wissel provided them. Their experimentation with lines and shading was very impressive!
Mrs. Keevy
Students in Mrs. Keevy’s class are using pre-glaze to add color to their sculpted tiles. With twelve color options (plus any new colors the students create from the twelve colors provided), students are able to demonstrate their creativity.

Winter Pep Session
The Booster Club, Mr. Hanley, and Mrs. Matlock put on an extremely successful winter pep session. The Senior winter athletes were recognized, the dance team participated and the classes competed in a basketball tournament for the first Cardinal Cup. The Seniors were victorious over the Sophomores who upset the Juniors in a close game. Between games and at halftime, the Booster Club showed funny clips on the video boards. One of them being the Cardinal Look Alike Cam!
