Academics Updates
Science
The first month of class has been a blast! Students have been practicing their scientific method skills by designing and conducting experiments, collecting quantitative data, and putting their own hypotheses to the test. From investigating the rate at which alka-seltzer dissolves in different aqueous solutions, to measuring the osmotic growth of beans, and beyond. The upcoming weeks will have us diving into our first scientific research projects and scholarly presentations, and I'm excited to see how the students take to it! Biology will be focusing on biodiversity and ecology, and Earth Science will be focusing on the Solar System and the ways in which outer space is intimately connected to the functionality of the Earth's many different systems. I'm always excited to see what students learn and share with their peers, and am looking forward to learning and growing alongside them over the rest of the school year! - Mr. Navarrette
What a great first month back it has been! Biology students are in full swing designing and testing their own animal behavior experiment! Make sure to ask them what they have learned about Roly Polys. Additionally, we are going on an optional field trip to the zoo October 4th, 8:45-1pm. Students will need picked upon arrival back to school. In the coming weeks we will move into learning more about ecology and will have a visit from the Zoomobile in class as well! Forensic Science: Our forensic science students have been hard at work learning how to become crime scene investigators and will be putting their skills to the test. Students will be creating mock crime scenes and then searching other teams scenes to gather and process evidence. Environmental Science: Our environmental science students have been learning to navigate our schools PLP pilot and researching endangered species in Colorado. We will have a visit from the Colorado Department of Wildlife to discuss conservation and the status of wolves in our state. Physical Science: This semester in physical science is all about Physics. Our students have been investigating Newton's Laws, Speed and will be working to design an apparatus for our annual Egg Drop. This class is also piloting a new curriculum called strongmind. We are looking forward to another awesome year here at the campus! Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns as the semester progresses! - Mrs. Emrick
Honors Chemistry and Chemistry are off to a great start with a project on Alchemy during the Renaissance. Students will be taking part in The Campus Renaissance Faire on Sept. 25th with experiments and demos from sciencetists during that time period. The students' creativity is shining through as they develop soap, candles, stained glass, paint, etc. as science blossomed during the Renaissance. Forensic Science is joining in on the fun as well investigating the start of Criminal investigation and Forensic Science. Statistics class is working on a Survey project determining populations, gathering sample data, and analyzing trends. - Mrs. Devore
Math
Math is going strong. Students should be getting to their weekly progress goals each week. Please reach out to teachers if you are struggling so we can zoom on Tuesday's or Thursday's. Algebra 1 and Geometry make sure to do your IXL work each week. Attendance and work in blended classes is very important. Please make certain you are getting all the work done. Don't put off your math and get ahead. Try to finish Fall semester so you can begin Spring semester work. - Math Team
World History
World History students will be identifying, describing and creating the themes and innovations of Renaissance Art. Students will:
• Choose 1 famous work for EACH theme or innovation (they can use the famous work multiple times IF it addresses multiple themes or innovation)
• Students will create or use an online avatar or an already created Bitmoji of themselves to demonstrate the themes and innovations of Renaissance art. They may also take photographs, find photographs online or draw images that address the themes and innovations if they should choose to do so.
• Students will present these electronically during the Renaissance Faire on September 25th!
• Students will need to explain WHY the images they chose fits the theme it is representing. - Mr. Villani
World History students will study a topic of interest to them and create three models demonstrating its development leading up the Renaissance period. In honor of Constitution Day, students will learn “Seven Principles of the Constitution” and discuss their views on soft drink bans. - Mr. Baker
US History & Civics
US History students will create presentations with different perspectives from the Reconstruction Era. Next, they will be learning about historical Black Members of Congress and how this has shaped various views and laws today. Students will also interact with their self-created historical fiction characters using AI. Civics students have created their Future Selves Profiles and will use AI to have mock discussions with their future selves about the future, politics, the economy, civic involvement, etc. Students will compare different types of government and will use the Bill of Rights to evaluate and ultimately decide how to respond to modern situations. - Mr. Baker
Intro to Journalism & Yearbook
Journalism students are delving into audio and podcasts as we launch a new curriculum. We are getting ready to start a campus-wide podcast, driven and organized by students. This will be a great way to showcase student achievement and talent while promoting the successes here at The Campus. Stay tuned!! - Ms. Bremser
The 2024-2025 Yearbook team has impressively planned out this year's book! The theme is Fantasy & Folklore. We are currently looking for students to submit potential cover art. Information on submitting a digital cover can be found in student emails! - Mrs. Hill-Needham
Electives
Spanish
English I & English II
- Mrs. Hill-Needham
English II students have started this year off by diving deep into the world of Shakespeare and the Renaissance. Over the past few weeks, they've been busy researching various aspects of Renaissance culture, from theater and art to science and daily life. Working in small groups, students have been designing interactive booths to showcase their chosen topics, with visual displays and persuasive techniques to market the product or invention they have created to solve a problem from this time period. The project will culminate in our school Renaissance Faire, on September 25th where students will dress up and take turns presenting their booths to classmates and guests. They have brought enthusiasm and creativity to this project and I can’t wait to see what their end results will be! - Mrs. Shonk
English III & English IV
English III students are doing a fantastic job working on researching the Renaissance and the connections to Humanism. Students have been busy creating multi-media presentations and poster board presentations for our school-wide Renaissance Faire, Sept. 25th.We have had a few debates discussing the impact of Humanism during the Renaissance as well as modern day connections. It's great seeing the connections being made with curriculum and their peers!
- Ms. Bremser
English IV students have been hard at work on a persuasive campaign project to effect positive changes in our school community. Over the past few weeks, seniors have identified important issues affecting our school and developed persuasive campaigns to address them. In small teams, students have been working to craft compelling messages, and create attention-getting materials for a target audience. Students are currently in the process of presenting their ideas to school administrators and staff, and will soon be launching their campaigns to the broader student body. It has been so exciting to see students invest their time, hard work, and creativity in making a positive impact on their school. - Mrs. Shonk
PPEC Honors English
School is back in session, and we are busy at work in Honors English preparing for this year's Renaissance Faire on September 25th. During this first quarter, students learn about the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras to find problems they can solve through innovation! Students will "sell" their products at the Faire. Following the Faire, students will finish reading Macbeth then recreate the play in 1-minute acts. September will be busy for us. Online, students are using SchoolsPLP and Google Classroom. Parents and guardians can find our assignment calendar guide in Google Classroom. We hope to see you at the Faire!
