St Bonaventure's
Alumni Newsletter
Message from Headteacher
" Thank you, once again, for all the support you, as Alumni, have given to our great school this academic year. I am always amazed at the way our Alumni give their time and skills to support the current generation of St Bonaventure's pupils.
A very special thanks go to those of you who have contributed financially via Invest My Community. This new fund has helped us to meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable pupils with love and compassion."
Mr McCormack, Headteacher
NEWS FROM YOUR FAVOURITE SCHOOL
Visit from Divin Mubama
It is wonderful to see all the achievements that Divin has made in the year since he left St Bon's; he was part of the winning FA Youth Cup team and the 2023 UEFA Conference League win with West Ham.
We are so proud of him and are rooting for him all the way. We look forward to seeing him again soon!
Alumni Visits to speak with Year 10 students
Students were excited to hear from the alumni who were now working in a variety of fields, heading up large departments in large corporations and running their own businesses.
Food Bank Delivery
Over the last few years, we have worked hard to articulate what it means to be a Bon's Boy or "Bonaventurian" and now use a set of 7 virtues which are very familiar to our current students: Faith, Hope, Charity, Integrity, Courage, Humility and Kinship. We feel these sum up so much of what we see in our current and former students. We continue to encourage students to live this out and one example is the charitable work our students and staff take part in all year round in the form of food donations and raising money for charity.
ALUMNI FUND
We are incredibly grateful to the alumni who have contributed to our newly launched Alumni Fund. This is a new initiative in response to alumni who wanted to give something back. We set up the fund to meet the needs of our current students and their families who are experiencing the post-Covid and cost of living challenges in Newham.
The demand for uniforms and school shoes is quite simply unprecedented. We know that Bon's boys always look smart, and we know how this helps them going off in the world, but we are really needing to help them with this at the moment. We are also building a contingency to help replace Chromebooks which were provided to students during the pandemic but are now getting to the end of their life cycle - these were resources that were literally life-changing for a number of our students - and we want to ensure they have the resources they need to fulfil their potential. Thank you so much to those who have made one-off gifts or regular donations. Every penny will go directly to the students who are the most in need.
Please help spread the word to other alumni you may be connected with. Thank you so much on behalf of the students.
InvestMyCommunity allows you to do your own fundraising event for our alumni fund. You can also set it up for birthdays, anniversaries or in memory. If you wish to discuss fundraising for a particular project, please email alumni@stbons.org. We will use this facility as we plan for our 150th anniversary.
FUTURE FIRST - ALUMNI VISITS
We know we have successful alumni in a wide range of fields, and it would be great to show the diversity of careers of our alumni, so please do sign up.
We are also looking to hear from more of our female alumni who are interested in coming in to inspire and work with our 6th form girls.
