Notes from the Principal...
Dear Monfort Families,
I want to remind everyone that our Winter Break will begin on Monday, February 17 and run through Friday, February 21. During this time, school will be closed, and students will have a well-deserved break to relax and enjoy time with their families.
We hope this winter break provides everyone with the opportunity to recharge, stay cozy, and make lasting memories. We look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday, February 24 for an exciting second half of the school year!
As we approach President's Day on Monday, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this national holiday. President's Day is a time to honor the legacy of the many individuals who have led our nation with dedication, vision, and service. It is an opportunity for us to consider the values that our leaders have upheld and how we can carry those values forward in our own lives.
While President's Day traditionally recognizes George Washington’s birthday, it has evolved into a day to celebrate all of our past presidents and the diverse ways they have shaped our country's history. It is also a chance for us to pause and think about the important role each of us plays in our community, and how we can contribute to making a positive impact.
I encourage everyone to take a moment to learn more about the presidents who have led our country, the challenges they faced, and the lessons we can draw from their leadership. This is a wonderful time to engage in thoughtful discussions about history, democracy, and citizenship.
I hope that each of you takes this opportunity to reflect on the significance of the day, and use it as inspiration to continue striving for excellence, leadership, and integrity in all that you do.
Wishing you all a thoughtful and meaningful President's Day
Warm regards,
Jeanne Poleski
Acting Principal

Celebrating Black History Month
February is a special month where we come together to celebrate the achievements, contributions, and rich culture of Black Americans throughout history. Black History Month is a time to reflect on the incredible individuals who have shaped our country and our world.
At Monfort, we are excited to honor Black History Month with a variety of activities and learning opportunities. Throughout the month, students will explore the lives of famous Black leaders, artists, scientists, and educators who have made a lasting impact on our society.
In the classroom, we will learn about important figures such as:
- Martin Luther King Jr., a leader in the Civil Rights Movement who fought for equality through peaceful protest.
- Rosa Parks, whose bravery in refusing to give up her seat on a segregated bus became a symbol of resistance to injustice.
- Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to travel in space, showing that there are no limits to what we can achieve.
- Langston Hughes, a writer whose poetry captured the essence of the Black experience in America.
- George Washington Carver, a scientist and inventor who developed new ways to use crops like peanuts and sweet potatoes to help farmers.
Black History Month is not only about celebrating the past but also about inspiring us to work together for a brighter future. Let’s come together to honor the stories, the struggles, and the triumphs that make Black history a vital part of our shared story.

Monfort Safety and Security
When entering Monfort...
We are asking for your assistance to ensure that our security procedures during the school day are effective. As many of you know, our school has a security camera, intercom, and buzzer at the front main entrance for use during the school day. To help us assist you when you would like to enter the school:
1. Please press the buzzer to speak with someone in the office
2. You will be asked to state your name and reason for visiting
3. You will be asked to show your photo ID into the security camera above the outside door
4. Office staff will then be able to buzz you inside
5. All visitors must immediately register in the office
In addition, we are asking you to not let any visitors in the door as you enter (and they come up behind you) or as you exit the building.
The teachers and staff are committed to student safety and security and we would like to thank you for your assistance in helping keep the students of Monfort safe!

Medication at School
Any child who needs to have medication administered at school will need to have completed medial forms on file for each medication. This includes over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol/Advil, cough drops, allergy medication, and others.
Children may not bring any medication to school, including allergy medication, without signed medical forms on file. Please do not send medication to school in your child's backpack, such as inhalers, EpiPen, or over-the-counter medications as they will be asked to keep the medication in the office for parents to pick up. If your child needs to have medication in their backpack per Doctor recommendation, UCS requires the completed medical form to be on file with the office.
