EVERYONE LEARNING, EVERYONE LEADING
Dear Longacre Families,
Last Thursday we welcomed Judge Marla E. Parker from the 47th District Court back to Longacre for our annual Inaugural Ball Pride Circle. Our Inaugural Ball has become a proud tradition at Longacre and enhances our leadership model. Judge Parker administered the “Oath of Leadership” to our student, staff and parent leadership groups. All students pledged to be the best leaders of themselves. Our kindergarten students wore their “Leader in Training- Class of 2036” t-shirts for the first time.
Longacre thrives because of the shared leadership that exists among our staff, students and parents. Whether you serve on our PTA or Parent Lighthouse Team, donate your time volunteering in your child’s classroom, pop popcorn on Fridays, coordinate classroom parties, lead enrichment programs, and/or assist your child in tracking their learning goals, we appreciate everything you do to help your child develop and grow. We value the partnership we share with you and look forward to continue working with you to maximize the growth of your child(ren).
As always, feel free to contact me or our main office at 248-489-3733 if you have any questions or need assistance.
With Longacre Pride,
Rhonda Henry, Principal

Longacre Jr. Optimist Club
At the Jr. Optimist October meeting, Fire Fighter Sean (Mr. Beacome) taught students about fire safety and how important first responders are. Students created a "token of appreciation" for firefighters. The Jr. Optimists also created a "token of appreciation" for the Red Cross first responders in Greenville, North Carolina that have been helping with the hurricane relief. Longacre Jr. Optimist Club is led by Mrs. Burkmyre.

Health Reminder from our District Nurse
Dear Parent/Guardian:
We are entering the fall and winter virus season where cases of respiratory viruses such as influenza (flu), COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) begin to rise. We have already seen this rise in our community and wanted to provide proactive health guidance.
These viruses can result in serious health situations that can require hospitalizations and, in their worst cases, can be life threatening. Respiratory viruses may cause both upper respiratory tract symptoms (the vocal cords and above) and lower respiratory tract symptoms (below the vocal cords). Some viruses also affect the nose, throat and lungs, and can lead to serious lung infections, such as pneumonia. Examples of respiratory virus symptoms include:
- Fever
- Chills
- Fatigue (tiredness)
- Cough
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Decrease in appetite
- Sore throat
- Vomiting
- New loss of taste or smell
- Headache, muscle, or body aches
- Diarrhea
- Weakness
There are many things that can be done to keep our schools, homes, and communities healthy and protect ourselves and our loved ones:
- As a general rule, children and adults should stay home when ill. We recommend that people who are sick with any respiratory illness remain at home until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.
- Teach your family how to lower their risk of getting and spreading respiratory viruses by:
- Washing their hands often with soap and running warm water for at least 20 seconds. That is as long as it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice. Make sure to clean under the fingernails also.
- If a hand washing station is not available, use hand sanitizer properly. Gels, rubs, and hand wipes work well against most respiratory viruses if they contain at least 60% alcohol. Throw wipes in the trash after use.
- Coughing or sneezing into their upper shirt sleeve or elbow—not onto their hands!
- Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth. That’s how germs enter the body.
- Avoid close contact with others, such as kissing, shaking hands, and sharing cups and eating utensils
- Clean frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and mobile devices
Receive the influenza vaccine to decrease the risk of contracting influenza and its potentially serious complications
- Seek medical care immediately if your child experiences any of the following symptoms:
- Illness lasting longer than a week
- Fast breathing or trouble breathing
- Bluish skin color
- Not drinking enough fluids or not urinating
- Not waking up or not interacting with others as they normally do
- Symptoms that improve but then return with fever and worse coughing
- Fever with a rashIf you have any questions, please contact us, the District nurses, Mary Larsen RN, mary.larsen@fpsk12.net, or Leslie Wirth RN, leslie.wirth@fpsk12.net.
Thank you for your time.
