From The Principal
We have an awesome first full week back with students! Students and staff are both working hard around starting the second semester out strong!
Also I’m excited to invite you to our upcoming School Accountability Committee (SAC) meeting on Wednesday, January 22nd. The meeting will be held at Manitou Springs Elementary School from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, and dinner will be provided.
The first hour will bring together SAC committees from other schools to learn more about Manitou Springs Elementary School. Following this, we’ll reconvene as the MSHS committee to review the Parent Engagement Survey results and discuss the next steps based on your valuable feedback.
If you plan to join us, please email me to confirm your attendance: aconrad@mssd14.org. I look forward to connecting with many of you at the meeting.
Have a great long weekend and stay warm!

Safe Arrival- A New Student Absence Reporting Tool:
Starting Tuesday, January 21, 2025, staff will being using the SafeArrival notifications to let you know if your student is absent (when you haven't reported the absence in advance).
If you have children attending other schools, please continue to report absences using the existing procedures for those schools.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement this new system.
A Word From The College Coordinator
A Word From The Science Department
Students in Mr. Slama's classes examined normal and dyed pig lungs to discuss what vaping and smoking does to the respiratory system over time. Students were able to feel how the lung compliance reduces in a diseased lung by inflating them with a hand-held air pump.

Chemistry students reviewed their skills for writing chemical names and formulas, which they learned first semester, through a board game this week. The students really enjoyed the new "gamified" review format!

A Word From Safety And Security
Sophomores have yellow parking passes and Juniors/Seniors have green parking passes. Now that we are back from break, we have more students who have gotten their license. What this means is that SOPHOMORES must now park on El Monte Pl hill and not in the parking lot.
Thank you!

Join Us for the MSHS Baseball Bowl-A-Thon – Support Our Spring Break Trip
We are hosting our annual Bowl-A-Thon on Sunday, March 9, and we’d love to have you join us as we work to raise funds for our team’s spring break trip to Arizona.
Each year, our program competes in the Coach Bob National Invitational, where we face off against top teams from across the nation. The cost of this trip typically ranges from $14,000 to $16,000, and while the experience is invaluable for our players, we rely heavily on fundraising to make it financially accessible. The Bowl-A-Thon is our main fundraiser, and the money raised helps reduce the cost for our players and their families.
Here’s how you can participate:
• Cost: $20 per bowler
• Team Size: Teams of 5-6 people
• Event Time Options:
• 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
• 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
• 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
The event includes two hours of bowling with a variety of games and challenges for prizes, as well as a raffle for several exciting items. This is a great opportunity to build departmental team chemistry or spend quality family time together. The Bowl-A-Thon becomes exceptionally fun when departments, sports teams, or groups get together to compete for high scores and bragging rights. It’s a relaxed environment where everyone can have fun while supporting a great cause.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could gather a team of colleagues, family members, or friends and join us for this great cause. Your participation would mean so much to our team and help ensure that our players can compete on a national stage without the burden of high out-of-pocket costs.
Thank you for considering supporting us! If you would like to register a team, please use the link below or the QR code in the flyer to do so. Please let me know if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
