Weekly News and Updates
Aanin Oshki Ogimaag Community School Families and Community Partners,
Last Monday, our whole school of students and staff, ventured out to Sugar Bush Camp after breakfast and spent the entire day in the woods at Waaban! We were joined by many Community members and educators from 1854 Treaty Authority.
When we arrived students collected and measured the sap from their trees to boil. Educators from 1854 Treaty Authority engaged students in instructional Environmental Education activities about how to preserve the Sugar Bush and protect it from invasive species.
After lunch, students had recess in the woods. Ms. Tess guided students in making Bannock, fry bread and spoon bread over the open fire. Students helped make cedar tea. For snack, students enjoyed warm bread with fruit preserves and cedar tea. It was a beautiful day of outdoor and Community-based learning spent at Sugar Bush Camp!
With the warm weather last week, students returned to Sugar Bush Camp for Forest Friday, collected sap and enjoyed some freshly made maple candies!
Chi-miigwech to Dr. Redix, Mr. Erik Carlson, Ms. Tess Bailey, Mr. Daniel Deschampe, Mr. Robert James, and the educators from 1854 Treaty Authority for joining us and supporting our students at Sugar Bush Camp!
