Principals' Update
11/24/24
Greetings MacArthur Families,
Happy Thanksgiving Week! This is our final MacArthur Notes prior to the Thanksgiving Holiday. It will be brief, but full of thanks. Once again at this special time of year, we want to share how grateful we are to be a part of this community and emphasize the commitment we have to being supportive partners along your children's educational journey. Thank you for sharing your children with us each day and entrusting us with their care. We do not take this responsibility lightly, rather we embrace the challenge of providing them with the conditions needed to grow as learners and citizens each day. This time of year, we work together as a school community to share acts of kindness with others to celebrate the impact that even the smallest example of thoughtfulness can have on someone’s day. Thank you to all who supported your children’s participation in our Kindness Challenge and pushed them to find ways to make their community more positive and bright this fall. We met as a school on Friday to celebrate these acts of kindness and reinforced our goal of consistently treating others the way we want to be treated.
This short week, we remind families that dismissal is at 11:45 am on Wednesday. Lunch will be served to those interested. Thank you for keeping your child informed about any updates to their dismissal schedule. Please note: there will be no before school or after school care in the YMCA extended day program on Wednesday. Please plan accordingly.
The week after Thanksgiving brings the return of our Book Fair! Please see the note from Mrs. South and fliers below for the schedule and more information.
Our book fair is coming up the week of December 2, and we wanted to let you know that we will be setting up a fund to help students who might not otherwise be able to purchase a book. If you would like to contribute to our Eaglebucks fund, please use this link to get to the Eagle MacArthur eWallet. Thank you so much for your consideration and generosity!
We know that the holidays bring a lot of joy. We are also aware that the holidays can be a challenging times for families facing new hardships, or experiencing loss. Please know that we are always here to offer a listening ear to support you and your children.
Finally, we wish you and your family a Thanksgiving filled with family, food, and fun! We will be visiting our own families, sharing in celebrations with those far and wide, and enjoying the chance to make memories during this special time of year. As you head away after school on Wednesday, may your travels be easy, tables be full, and hugs we aplenty! Have a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving!
In Partnership,

Attendance Update - 11/24/24
1) Absence Communication Phone Line: If your child is ill and needs to be absent, please call 781-314-5722 and leave a message on Ms. Santana's voicemail to record your absence. We are collecting data on illnesses and why absences occur to best support the school community as a whole.
2) School Required Communication: As we approach Day 60 of the school year on Tuesday, we will be preparing our next round on attendance letters to inform you that your child has reached 5 absences. This required communication shares the importance of consistent attendance and invites you to share more information with us about any barriers your children are facing to get to school.
3) November Attendance Update: Currently, our average daily attendance rate is 95.9%. This slightly surpasses the district elementary school average of 95.6%. Our 1st graders are setting the pace with 96.9% average daily attendance. Thank you for prioritizing your children's school attendance and only keeping them home when they are too sick to attend school.
