BHS Happenings
October 8, 2024
Dear BHS Parents and Guardians:
BHS students are preparing for PSAT/SAT Day on October 23, 2024. Testing will be computer based an all students will need their school issued laptop to test. Please make sure your child's laptop is working and charge for test day. Students should also eat a healthy breakfast, get a good night's sleep, and come to school prepared to test. Thank you for your support in preparing your child for this important day.
There will be no school for students on October 14th for Indigenous People's Day and October 15th for Teacher Professional Development. School will resume on Wednesday, October 16th.

Save The Date: Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held October 30 - . This is a great opportunity to conference with your child's teachers at the end of Quarter1. Below is the schedule for conferences:
- October 30th: 12:45 - 2:50 p.m.
- October 30th: 5:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- October 31st: 12:45 - 2:50 p.m.

PSAT/SAT Day: October 23, 2024
PSAT/SAT Day is approaching fast! All BHS students will be testing on October 23, 2024. Students will be taking the following tests based on grade:
- 9th Grade: PSAT 8/9
- 10th Grade: PSAT NMSQT
- 11th Grade: PSAT NMSQT
- 12th Grade: SAT
All students will take their regular bus to school on that day. Students will be dropped off following the late bus routes, which are attached below for your review. Students will be released from school following testing. Most students will be released at 11:00 a.m. on this day. Students needing accommodations will be released at 12:00 or 2:00 p.m.
All tests are computer based and students will need their school issued laptop to test. Please make sure your students device is charged and ready to go on test day.
BHS Athletics Update
Girls Soccer:
- On Wednesday, October 2nd, BHS' Varsity Girls Soccer Team fell to International/Aerospace, 0-2.
- On Monday, October 7th, BHS' Varsity Girls Soccer Team fell to Rocky Hill, 0-5.
Boys Soccer:
- On Tuesday, October 1st, BHS' Varsity Boys Soccer Team fell to Newington, 0-7.
- On Friday, October 4th, BHS' Varsity Boys Soccer Team fell to Manchester, 0-4.
- On Monday, October 7th, BHS' Varsity Boys Soccer Team fell to Rocky Hill, 2-10. Goals for the Warhawks were scored by Nathaniel Williams.
Football:
- On Friday, October 4th, BHS' Varsity Football Team defeated Avon, 48-0. Touchdowns for the Warhawks were scored by Zion Banton (2), Romar Heron (1), Marlon Britton (2), Cameron White (1), and Lamont Applewhite (1).
Girls Volleyball:
- On Monday, October 7th, BHS' Varsity Girls Volleyball Team fell to Manchester, 0-3.
Boys Cross Country:
- On Tuesday, October 1st, BHS' Varsity Boys Cross Country Team fell to Rocky Hill and Manchester, 50-15. The top five finishers for the boys were: Jessie Singelton Jr., Nehemiah Raphael-Adams, Charles Fennell, Eric Gamble and Steven White.
Girls Cross Country:
- On Tuesday, October 1st, BHS' Varsity Girls Cross Country Team fell to Rocky Hill, 50-15 and defeated Manchester 15-50. The top five finishers for the girls were: D'Asia Duncan, Soleigh Dixon, Vanessa Agyemang, Joanna Ansah-Okae and Caleah Baker.
BHS' Athletic Department Receives Awards at CIAC's Annual Sportsmanship Conference
On Monday, October 7th, BHS' Class Act Council, a group of student-athletes at BHS who promote sportsmanship and help to develop and implement different initiatives at the high school, attended the 18th Annual CIAC Sportsmanship Conference at the Aqua Turf. The conference included inspiring stories from current and past athletes, insightful panels, and a keynote address by UCONN legend Kara Wolters. At the conference, BHS' Class Act Council was awarded the Michaels Jewelers Achievement Cup for the 2023-2024 school year, this is the sixth time that the athletic department has received this honor. The Michaels Cup is awarded to schools who create positive environments for their student-athletes through a high standard of sportsmanship. BHS was also awarded the Fred Balsamo Sportsmanship Award at the event. The Fred Balsamo Sportsmanship Award funds sportsmanship initiatives for CIAC member schools based on how well applicants support tolerance, acceptance and respect. Congratulations to our Class Act Council and the entire Athletic Department!
BHS Junior D'Asia Duncan Named SERVPRO Student Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to BHS Junior, D'Asia Duncan who has been named SERVPRO Student Athlete Spotlight of the Week! D'Asia is also currently running numerous fundraising events at BHS for Breast Cancer Awareness:
- October 1-31: Pink ribbons will be sold in the main office for $1 to be displayed on the Breast Cancer Awareness banner in the main lobby. All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
- October 11: Bake Sale and Pink Lemonade Sale. All proceeds will go to Sisters Network Inc.
- October 18: Pajama Day - Dress Down Day. Students will pay $1 to wear pajamas for the day. All proceeds will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
We thank everyone for their support in helping D'Asia to fundraise over the next month!
Student Elections Conclude at BHS

BHS Juniors and Seniors Visit UCONN
On Thursday, October 4th, a group of BHS Juniors and Seniors took a field trip to the University of Connecticut. Students were given the opportunity to tour the campus, meet with current students, learn about prestigious academic programs, and explore student engagement opportunities. There may be some future Huskies in these pictures!
