Electronic Backpack & Newsletter
1/9/25
Hello DeMello Families!
Happy New Year! We hope this newsletter finds you all enjoying the first days of 2025!
We've had a busy return to school, filled with lots of fun and learning. This week, we celebrated the 80th day of school and our school-wide goal of all students achieving 80% proficiency in ST MAth with an "80's for Jiji Day!" On Monday, our students and staff donned their best 80's attire and showed off their New Wave looks for all to enjoy🙂 All the neon and mesh brought me back to my high school days! Thanks to our incredible math coach, Mrs. Jen Fitton, as well as the DeMello Math Team for their work on this fun day! Enjoy the pictures below and continue to encourage your students to keep working hard on their ST math puzzles!
This week, I also had the opportunity to watch student extreme weather presentations in Mrs. Markey's class. Students were placed into cooperative groups to research types of storms and other weather phenomena. The were they challenged with constructing an digital poster, which they displayed on the class smartboard and used in their presentations. I was so proud of the collaboration and hard work these groups put into the project! Bravo, 4th grade!
We wrapped up the week with the 2nd grade "Winter Stem City." For the second year in a row our 2nd grade team, in collaboration with instructional technology coach, Mrs. Liz Voci, organized and presented a family STEM event in our cafeteria. Second graders and their families were charged with designing a "city," creating it on poster paper, and then programming a "BeeBot" to travel through the city! Enjoy the pictures of this amazing activity below! Thanks to the families who were able to come and participate. AND...thanks to Mrs. Pickering, Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. Sand and Mrs. Voci for their work to make this such a wonderful and challenging gathering.
That is all for now! Enjoy the weekend with your incredible students!
All the Best-
Mrs. Correia
Important Drop-Off/Pick Up Reminders
Families--when dropping of your students, PLEASE be sure to pull all the way down to the bottom of the road--even if yours is the only car dropping off at that moment. This allows drop-off to run smoothly and safely. Also, please do not pull out around cars that are dropping off OR picking up as that poses a safety risk to students and families. Kindly wait for the car(s) in front of you to off-load and move with the line to exit the lot. Finally, please make sure your students can get out of the passenger side of the car at drop-off. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you.
A Message from Our Nurses Regarding the Mobile Dentist Service!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
A Mobile Dentist service is coming to DeMello School! It is not too late to sign up for services!
If you are still interested in having your child seen by the dentist, please reach out to Nurse Rachael and Nurse Kate!
A Note from Nurses Kate and Rachael
As the weather cools down, please remember to send students in with appropriate clothing for recess.
As the holiday season approaches so does the concern of flu and other respiratory illnesses. Please remember to keep your child home if they are sick to help prevent the spread of germs. If your child has a fever, vomits, or has diarrhea, they cannot return to school until 24 hours
after the fever has broken without medication or 24 hours after the last time they threw up/had diarrhea.
Thank you!
