Principal's Message
Dear Conley Families,
We are working to strengthen our school community's understanding of respect, resilience, and inclusion. As part of this important work, our students will be participating in a special lesson centered around the book The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad. This powerful story highlights themes of strength, self-confidence, and identity, providing an opportunity for meaningful conversations about diversity and respect. Students will use the THINK method they have previously learned to reflect on the interactions and responses.
In addition, our administrative team and teachers are reviewing the language in our elementary handbook regarding racial language and will be discussing appropriate consequences to ensure clarity and consistency.
Through guided discussions, students will consider how words and actions impact others. They will explore questions such as:
How do you think the person who heard this might feel?
What could we say or do to make this right?
Should there be a consequence?
We encourage you to continue these important conversations at home. Ask your child about The Proudest Blue and the THINK method. Together, we can support our students in becoming thoughtful, respectful, and compassionate individuals.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Surjan
Principal
