Mustang News - November 15, 2024
From The Principal
I have seen such awesome learning and teaching in classrooms this week: PPSC Theater students collaborating to write a radio drama for our MSMS students to perform, Advanced Journalism students creating their first video series then working through feedback collectively, AP Chemistry students applying critical thinking and problem solving on partner problems, English II students creating graphs analyzing punctuation usage across authors, and so much more. Spending time in our classrooms and seeing the hard work of both students and staff gives me so much energy and joy!
This week, we also launched a new partnership with Hardcastle Home Services and our Construction program, through which our students can earn HVAC certifications!
Additionally, we would like to recognize the following students who each earned recognition from College Board due to: 1. having a GPA of 3.3 or higher, 2. either being in the top 10% of assessment takers for PSAT 10 or PSAT NMSQT in Colorado or earning a 3 or higher on two different AP exams, 3. Attending school in a rural area or small town, or identifying as African American/Black, Hispanic American/Latino, Indigenous/Native American, or a first-generation college student. Please join us in celebrating: Brooke F., Jacob J., Julian N., and Jonas S.! We are so proud of your all’s brilliance and dedication!
We look forward to seeing many of you at our district auditorium tonight, Saturday, or this upcoming Thursday at the musical: “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”!
Have a phenomenal weekend!

A Word From The Art Department
Artist of the month: Lily M
12th grade
Currently Art classes: Metalsmithing, Sculpture
Biggest Artist influence: My mom has always been an artist and she is probably my biggest influence.
What advice would you give to other student artists who are just starting out? Don't compare your art to anyone else's. Art is unique, it will never be the same to anyone else.

Mr. Bonner visited with Michael Cellan this past weekend at the CAEA conference in Breckenridge. Mr. Cellan taught art at Manitou HS for 42 years. He was recently awarded a “Life time achievement award from the Colorado Art Education Association. He was also instrumental in designing the art rooms in the SILC building.
Drawing
Drawing students using wax pencils to draw still lifes. There were six stations for the students to draw. They stayed at each station for 15 minutes before moving on to the next station.
Drawing students using poseable figures to work on “gesture” drawing. Each student worked on drawing several images of the figures in various positions. The idea with gesture drawing is to draw the main idea of the object and trying to show movement.
A Word From The World Language Department
Spanish 1 students have been learning about Definite & Indefinite Articles, Adjectives and the verb "IR", which means "to go". As part of the demonstration of learning, students will start class with a Warm Up activity that helps them go over concepts discussed during last class and apply them into their writing and speaking skills. After the lesson of the day, students work with their peers in an activity that will put into practice what they learned during class.
