Davis A&M Family Newsletter
October 4, 2021
Principal's Message
The week before our fall break, Ms. Tierra met with each grade to celebrate our students’ successes first quarter, and to review our expectations for the second quarter.
One area we need parent support with is around our school dress code. We hold our students to high standards and have a number of outstanding opportunities for them. This is what makes our school strong. We therefore expect our students to dress professionally and treat school like their job.
Davis students are expected to wear collared shirts every day. Students received free shirts in the beginning of the year, so every student can meet this expectation.
Additionally, students should not wear hooded sweatshirts or jackets, or sweatshirts with large logos or writing. Please make sure that when your child returns to school after fall break, they are equipped with the appropriate warm clothing. Again, we will be distributing free sweaters to students who would like them. And again, when we invest in our students, our expectation is that they respect this investment and adhere to our dress code.
Students should wear plain blue, tan, or black pants. Sweatpants and jeans, especially ones with large tips on them, are not professional.
Finally, students must wear shoes (not sandals) to school. This is a safety issue.
Students are preparing for paid internships, presentations to our community partners, college trips and opportunities that require them to represent themselves above the typical high school student. We are teaching them the skills needed to obtain these opportunities, but
also how to present themselves when they participate in them.
All students have received these expectations, and we will be including families in the conversation when students do not meet them. Please help us set these expectations by ensuring your child has appropriate dress code clothing. And please contact the school if your child is unable to be in dress code so we can support with additional options for them.
