3D Printing and Laser Cutting STEM Club at CMIT South Academy
Overview
The 3D Printing and Laser Cutting STEM Club at CMIT South Academy will provide students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge additive manufacturing technologies. The club aims to inspire innovation, creativity, and practical problem-solving through 3D printing and laser cutting techniques. Students will learn the principles of engineering design, programming, and the conversion of digital models into physical objects. By exploring functional product creation and artistic engraving, students will gain valuable skills in both STEM and the arts. This club will prepare students for local, state, and national competitions, with a focus on the Prince George County competition, as well as give them the tools and confidence to organize our own in-house challenges.
Objectives
Introduce students to 3D printing and laser cutting: Teach students how to design, program, and print functional 3D models using advanced software and 3D printers.
Engage students in creative engineering and art: Use laser cutting and engraving techniques on various materials like wood, plastic, and metal with Epilog Fab machines.
Encourage participation in STEM competitions: Prepare students to compete in local, state, and national competitions, showcasing their creations and designs.
Promote problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork: Foster a collaborative environment where students work together to create functional and artistic projects.

Week Recap:
🏐Volleyball:
Our Varsity Volleyball team is on fire! They started the week with a commanding win over Largo HS in straight sets, remaining undefeated at home. Although our JV team fell short on Monday, they bounced back strong on Wednesday, defeating Gwynn Park HS in their first road game. Varsity also secured another straight-set win, improving to 3-0 as they defend their regional title. They’ll look to keep their winning streak alive next week against Langley Park International and Crossland HS.

Our boys Soccer team showed grit and improvement, taking on Largo International and Friendly HS this week. While both games ended in narrow losses (2-0 and 3-1), we’re seeing major progress, and we believe that the first win of the season is just around the corner. They face Central HS and Langley Park International next week!
