No School Monday - MLK Day

As many of you have seen in the district email, Mr. Jacobs will be taking the Principal position here at Bear Branch Junior High. We are so excited he will be our new leader! I will be here through the end of January to help with a smooth, mid-year transition before leaving to work on opening Magnolia Parkway Junior High. It has been my pleasure to work with our families, students, and staff for the last 5 years. Leaving this wonderful campus is bitter sweet, but I know great things are ahead!
For the last time at BBJH:
Proud to be your student's principal,
Julia
Winter Dance is tonight! See you there!

Sign-ups for Bear Branch Junior High's A+ Academics UIL team are now open! Have your student (using their school mymisd.org email) fill this form out for each event they are interested in! You must be signed in to your student email account to get the form.
UIL Academics is a district wide competition where students get to pursue academic excellence through a variety of events. Students at Bear Branch Junior High compete in 16 different events including: Art; Impromptu Speaking; Prose; Poetry; Spelling; Calculator Apps; Editorial Writing; Ready Writing; Science; Maps, Graphs, and Charts; Chess; Mathematics; Dictionary Skills; Number Sense; Listening Skills; and Social Studies. Students place 1st through 6th and points are awarded to each school for every student that places in an event. These points are tallied up and one school walks away a champion!
Lady Bear Basketball
We are thrilled to share that the Lady Bears' 7th grade B team remains undefeated in district play after a fantastic victory against the Grand Lakes Tigers, winning with a score of 34-9. Ryanne Saldana led the team as the top scorer, contributing an impressive 13 points. The game showcased amazing defensive efforts from Alexis Mote and Preslea Gentry, who were unstoppable with their blocks underneath the basket. It was truly an all-around great performance by all players, bringing their record to an incredible 6-0. Coaches Bendele-Williams and Menchaca are immensely proud of the growth and hard work each player has demonstrated this season.
The 7th grade girls A team came out ready to play with a lot of energy and confidence! Each member of the team helped the Lady Bears achieve the win, with a score of 34-8!! Top scorers were Katherine Gibson with 17 points, Violet Browne with 6 points and Taylor Muse with 5 points. Shout out to Ayva Hobbie, Violet Browne, Katelyn Murdock, Aubrie Lucas and Kendyl Prince on leading the way with many defensive steals and rebounds! Coach Menchaca and Bendele-Williams are very proud of each and every one of yalls hard work and contributions to last nights win! Let’s keep this good momentum going Lady Bears!!
The 8th grade B team fell short last night, 19 to 29. All players took shots and played very well, unfortunately the turnover battle hurt us. Top scorer was Rubi Nguyen with 9 points!!! Zoey Perkins added four and Allie Johnson, Violet Kaiser and Ava MCMillen all added 2 each. Great teamwork and play by all! Murdock is super proud of y'all!
The 8th grade A team scored their second highest number of points with 41 but fell short to a good Grand Lakes team. It was an all out battle of the boards with everyone shooting and rebounding! Top scorers were Abigail Rucker and Morgan Taylor, each of these ladies added 12 points to our score!!! Reagan Christopherson went 4 for 4 from the free throw line and added 2 more points to her stats. Raini Simmmons came out the second half on fire with her defense and steals. All out team win in Murdock's eyes because these girls played together the entire game and improved as a team!
