Bench and Sunshade Project Update
We are so excited to announce that two new picnic tables with sunshades have been ordered and will be on their way to Skyway in the next couple weeks! The $25,000 raised for this project was enough to fund two picnic tables with sunshades, curbing, gravel and installation. Thank you, Skyway community, for your support and patience as we've worked to get this project approved. We know this has been a long time coming and we can't wait to get them and put them to good use!
Gary Hogg is coming to Skyway, April 10-12
We are excited to have Gary Hogg come to Skyway this April. he will be sharing his creativity with all our students through assemblies and classroom workshops. Here is a little more about Garry Hogg.
Gary Hogg has been writing and telling stories since he was a boy growing up in Burley, Idaho. His mom loved to read and his dad loved horses. Gary ended up with lots of books and a horse named Sport. Both of them took him on exciting adventures. Gary’s fourth grade teacher inspired him to put his wild ideas into stories instead of acting them out in class. She kept her sanity and he became a writer.
Gary is the author of 26 books including Look What the Cat Dragged In, Sir William the Worm, The Great Toilet Paper Caper, and Help! My Dad is the Lunch Lady. He is a popular speaker at schools and conferences. He’s visited more than 3,700 schools, presented more than 5,000 assemblies, and conducted over 18,000 writing workshops. Gary has inspired more than 2 million students to declare with confidence, “I am an author!”
Gary lives in Huntsville, Utah with his amazing wife Emily. They have six creative kids and one sweet grandson. Family time is Gary’s favorite time and he tries to get everyone together as often as possible. He loves to read, travel and ride his horse. His favorite food is cake.
Our PTO is generously offering to purchase materials to help beautify our school for Earth Day. We are hoping for parent assistance by either picking up the supplies or give an hour to aid students in the work. Please click the picture to sign up.
Calling all Landscapers and Gardeners!
Back in 2012, the Skyway Community Garden was created by some talented and generous families. Garden beds and the watering system were donated and installed by Skyway families that were familiar with landscaping and gardening.
Since then, students have grown vegetables, berries, herbs and native plants in the 9 garden beds. We have composted veggies from the cafeteria, donated food to the local shelter, and used the garden to enhance and deepen math, writing and art state standards. Our garden shed was even built by a former Skyway student who was studying woodworking in the K-TEC program.
As with everything, our garden needs some repair and maintenance. Garden beds are weathering, grass is coming up through the weed barrier, and the sprinkler system is getting worn out. We are looking for volunteers and donations to give the garden a makeover! If you are willing to help, please contact our office or email Megan Beaudry at mbeaudry@cdaschools.org or Carol Behrens at cbehrens@cdaschools.org.
We are also looking for donations of seeds. If you would like to donate a seed packet to our Skyway Garden please have your child bring it to the Skyway front office. We appreciate your help and support!
