Meet Our Newest Counselor, Heather Antanavica
"Hello! I’m Heather Antanavica, or, “Mrs. A,” and I’m the new counselor at Douglas Middle School. I’ve been a licensed school counselor since 2020, and I also have several years of experience working as an adolescent mental health clinician.
For the past 4 years, I have been teaching undergraduate and graduate psychology courses at multiple universities. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Bay Path University, a Master of Arts in clinical marriage and family therapy from Touro University, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in school counseling from Assumption University, and I am currently pursuing my doctorate degree in organizational psychology and leadership, with a proposed graduation date of October 2025.
I am deeply passionate about providing students with the skills they need to be academically successful. I believe that all students have the right to feel safe, supported, and happy in school, and that every student has limitless potential.
I live with my husband and our two amazing dogs, Ellie and Nora. I was a competitive long-distance runner for many years and still enjoy racing for fun. I also enjoy cycling, tennis, golf, soccer and yoga. Aside from all things sports, I am often spotted doing some wildlife or portrait photography on the weekends.
I am thrilled to be a part of the Douglas public school community and look forward to meeting you!"
8th Grade End of Year Activities
Dear Eighth Grade Parents/Guardians:
During the last month of school, there are end-of-the-year activities planned for our eighth graders including, but not limited to, a Promotion Ceremony, celebration at West End Creamery, and a Dessert Dance. To make all of these events successful, we are collecting class dues from each student. Class dues are $30.00. Cash or a check made out to “Town of Douglas” should be turned into Mrs. Tamelleo by June 1st.
Eighth Grade End of Year Trip
The 8th grade year end trip will be to Polar Park in Worcester on June 6th from 11 AM - 3:45 PM. While there, the students will enjoy a baseball game, and spend time with their friends in the berm area of the park. Students will eat lunch prior to going. They should bring sunscreen, dress comfortably, and bring spending money for any concessions or sports memorabilia they might like.
Eighth Grade Celebration
We want to inform you that the Eighth Grade Celebration will be held on Wednesday, June 12th from 3-5:00 PM (rain date: Thursday, June 13th from 3-5:00 PM) at West End Creamery. This will be a fun-filled afternoon that includes the barnyard jump and adventure park, and ice cream. The students are asked to be dropped off and picked up at West End Creamery (481 Purgatory Rd. Whitinsville, MA) and to dress comfortably (Class of 2028 t-shirt, comfortable shoes). Permission slips with cost will be coming out soon and will be required to attend.
Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony
The Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held in the Middle School Auditorium on Monday, June 17th at 12:00 PM. We would like all eighth grade students to participate, and we welcome up to four family members per student to attend. It promises to be a memorable day where we will have the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of our eighth grade class. More information will be provided in a follow-up letter.
Eighth Grade Dessert Dance
The Eighth Grade Dessert Dance will also be held on Monday, June 17th from 6:00 PM-8:30 PM in the Middle School cafeteria. This will be an evening of eating, dancing, and celebrating. The students are asked to dress nicely. (Dresses, dress pants, collared shirts, and ties are welcome.) The Dinner Dance committee has worked hard on preparations for the evening’s events. The theme of “A Night in New York” will be celebrated with a menu of snacks, water/soda and desserts.
Eighth Grade Breakfast
On the last day of school, we will celebrate the eighth grade students one more time with a light breakfast in the cafeteria. During this time, students can sign each other's yearbooks, say goodbye to their former and present teachers, and enjoy one last morning with their peers.
We are very much looking forward to the events during the last week of school, and we hope to see you during the promotion ceremony! It will be a special event to honor all of our students, and we very much appreciate your attendance and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
The Eighth Grade Team
Mr. O’Brien, Principal
Mrs. Sullivan, Dean of Students

Douglas High School Opportunities
After Middle School...
It can be a major decision whether your student is deciding to attend a vocational school or traditional high school after Middle School. For students trying to decide between these two educational paths, the choice often comes down to your skills, interests, and what you want to do after graduating. Please take a look at what the Douglas High School has to offer.
High schools play a crucial role in shaping the academic and personal development of students. They provide a broad academic foundation, a college preparatory focus, and a range of extracurricular activities to enhance students’ overall growth.
Douglas High School offers advanced placement (AP) courses and college-level classes, allowing motivated students to earn college credits while still in high school. Additionally, Douglas High School provides guidance and support in the college application process, helping students navigate through the complexities of college admissions.
