Flynn Update
Welcome Back!
Dear Flynn Families,
As we usher in a new school year, I am filled with excitement for the adventures and achievements that lie ahead. The halls will soon buzz with the energy of our students, and the prospect of welcoming everyone back fills our staff with joy. A quick update, you'll notice the Flynn website has been completely redone. We'll keep it up-to-date with all of my previous newsletters and important dates.
Our Back to School Open House is set for Monday, August 12th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This event is a wonderful opportunity for you and your children to meet their teachers, explore our classrooms, and reconnect with Flynn. Feel free to bring in your school supplies on this date. And please come by any time during these hours to start the school year on a positive note.
Additionally, during the Open House, we encourage you to bring any lightly used uniforms for donation. We will have some available from last year, but with your contributions, we hope to offer a robust selection to families. Thanks to the PTO for coordinating this initiative; the donated uniforms will be cleaned, sorted, and made available to parents after the Open House.
The first day of school for students in Levels 1 through 8 is Tuesday, August 13th. You are warmly invited to accompany your child to the back of the building, where they will line up with their classmates and enter the school just after 8:00 AM. From the second day onwards, students levels 1 through 8 grade should gather in the gym each morning, where staff members will welcome them. Parents are also welcome to join their students in the gym as they wait for the bell at 8.
For our Pre-K and Kindergarten families, your children's first day will be on Thursday, August 15th. Kindergarten will start at 8:00 AM and Pre-K at 8:30 AM. Parents can meet the teachers in the back of the school to drop off their children. For Pre-K, Ms. Erica Hernandez will be in contact with you soon to schedule family orientations on August 13th or 14th. For Kinder parents, please see below for more information.
Our first PTO meeting of the year will take place on Wednesday, August 7th at 4:00 PM in the library. Your participation in the PTO is invaluable, and I encourage everyone interested to join us as we plan for an engaging and productive year.
Lastly, if you have not yet registered your student for this school year, please do so as soon as possible. While most families have completed this process, we want to ensure no one is left out. If you need assistance with registration, please do not hesitate to visit the school for support.
Thank you for being such a vital part of our vibrant school community. Together, we will make this a year to be remembered.
Warmest regards,
Dr. Chism
Welcome to Kindergarten, Class of 2037!
Prior to your child's first day, we will hold 20 minute academic screeners for kinder students on August 13th and 14th. If you have not received a text to schedule these, please call us to schedule your child's screener.
Kindergarten "hug and go" will occur on August15th at 8:00. Students will meet teachers outside at the back of the school to meet and transition your child into the classroom. You will, of course, have opportunities to take photos and say goodbye. It is often more difficult for a child to say their goodbyes once an adult has walked into the classroom with them, so we want to begin to create that routine for your child to be successful with daily transition into the school day. If you are bringing school supplies on this day, we will have baskets set outside to place items.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Flynn uses two lanes of traffic for arrival and dismissal. Blue lane traffic are vehicles that are entering Flynn from 88th Ave, along 88th Way (traveling south, by the field). Orange lane traffic are vehicles that are turning on to 88th Way from Lowell (traveling west).
ARRIVAL
If you are dropping your student off, you will pull your vehicle into either the blue lane or orange lane. These lanes are marked with cones. If pulling into the blue lane, please pull as far up towards the cross walk to let your student out. If using the orange lane, please pull as close to the Flynn exit (facing Lowell) and your student can get out and use the crosswalk to safely walk to the building.
DISMISSAL
For dismissal, we use an app called Driveline. Dismissal will begin at 1:20 p.m. on Mondays and 3:20 on Tuesdays through Fridays. Students walking home will be dismissed at 3:30 (1:30 on Mondays).
All families will receive a number tag at the start of the school year. This tag is to be hung from your vehicle front mirror so support staff can easily see your number. If you are a returning family, your number remains the same.
Parents who are parking or walking can stand near the front office entrance and provide your number to the staff member collecting numbers.
All parents and guardians are expected to use the crosswalk and follow the traffic and safety rules.
TO AND FROM SCHOOL-TRAFFIC and PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Students may begin arriving at 7:50 a.m. every day. Students will enter into the gymnasium to participate in our walking program. Parents are welcome to join their student in the gymnasium, however are not permitted to visit classrooms without signing in as a guest in the front office.

Applications are open now until August 25th at 11:59 pm. For new members, the first meeting will be on September 3rd. We are committed to ensuring every parent has the opportunity to engage with their school and district in meaningful ways. However, space is limited, so apply now.
