South MS Friday Blast

Hello October! You were off to a gloomy start but the sun is showing off more of her autumn glow as we end the week. A recap of this week:

• Students continued putting their best foot forward on the science CDTs.
• Kudos to Ms. Meneeley for organizing our annual LipDub! This is always a student favorite activity - stay tuned for the final video to show up on South's YouTube.
• Our annual fundraiser is in full swing and ducks are everywhere! We thank all of our South MS community for contributing to this year's fundraiser. The last turn-in day is next Tuesday, Oct. 8th. Many thanks go out to Mrs. Hippauf for coordinating our annual fundraiser.

We are changing things up this year and are having a Lunch on the Lawn for all three grade levels, however, not all on the same day! You are invited to join your child(ren) for Lunch on the Lawn on either Wednesday, October 9th (6th & 7th grades) or Thursday October 10th (8th grade). All family members are welcome to join us for lunch on our football field. South students will be able to get their lunch as usual to bring outside, but anyone else that is attending should bring lunch with them. You can also feel free to bring a special lunch for your student. You can chill out with Kona Ice, who will be on-site and available for purchase both days. What is Homework Club? Students who are feeling a bit overwhelmed or just need a little help with their homework are encouraged to come to Homework Club from 3:00 - 4:15PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A teacher and/or teaching assistant will be available to help get students back on track with their homework so they aren't trying to play catch-up at the end of the marking period. Students do not need to sign-up ahead of time and are invited to attend as needed. Parents/guardians can pick-up their child after Homework Club or students can take the 4:15PM bus home. Keep in mind that the 4:15PM bus sometimes covers a large territory so it may take additional time to get all the students home. As always, we are here to help.

Attention Pennridge Community!

We're very excited to coordinate this worthwhile effort with you as we turn October into "SOCK-TOBER." You will see a box in all of our schools as we are asking you to consider donating new socks to fill these boxes. Throughout October, all Pennridge Schools will be collecting as many socks as we can for two organizations that help the homeless in our region. "Socks for the Streets" is based in Bucks County and we are also helping the "Giving Tree" organization which is also the group that our staff and students at North Middle School help annually. Please consider printing out or sharing the attached flyer wherever you wish to help get the word and then, help us by filling these boxes! Let's work together and make our 1st-ever "Sock-Tober" as successful as it can be! All our best and thanks, in advance, for your help and support!

Pennridge High School Performing Arts invites you to attend their fall play, Peter and the Starcatcher, a story based on the well known tale of Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Many South alumni are in the cast and crew and they would love to see you in Neverland on October 17, 19 and 20 at the high school auditorium! Tickets are available at the door or through the Performing Arts - Theater webpage.

Join us for an exciting evening at Urban Air in East Norriton, being sponsored by CCN for CCN, SCN, and NCN families on Friday, November 8th from 6:30-9:00PM. The price per person is $20.00. Venmo transactions can be made to: #PennridgeCCN2425. We will be accepting Venmo prior to the day of event. Each child participating must complete the signup and waiver.

The Pennridge Athletic Department welcomes guests to our home stadium for the Friday Night Football games! See below for a very important message from the PSD Athletic Department:

Pennridge High School expectations for spectator decorum at events:

1. Middle school-aged students must be accompanied by a parent.
2. All students should be seated in the stands. The area around the concession area is NOT a play area or hang-out area. Security will monitor this area and ask all to take a seat.
3. The use of or throwing of balls inside the stadium is prohibited. These will be confiscated at the gate and not returned to the owner.
4. Once someone leaves the stadium, they are not allowed to reenter.
5. No artificial noise makers, whistles or sound-producing devices (horns, cow bells, etc.).
6. No foul language or indecent gesture will be tolerated, especially towards players, game workers, security, coaches, and officials.
7. No throwing confetti, toilet paper rolls, or other objects in the stands, stadium, or on the field.
8. No menacing actions or gestures by groups towards opposing players, coaches, or officials.
9. No one can run onto the field or play ball during halftime or after the game. Exceptions: ball boys for extra points, field goal kicks, etc.
10. At no time, before, during, or after a contest should spectators be permitted to enter the competition area.
11. Access to the competition area is limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, and game personnel.

Enjoy a night of hockey at the PPL Center in Allentown! Be a charity partner for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation (Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter), along with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday, November 29th at 7:05 PM. Tickets are $28 with $5 of each ticket and a portion of the 50/50 and Chuck a Puck going to the fundraiser. Tickets must be purchased by Tuesday October 29th using the QR code in the poster below.

Fall weather can be quite unpredictable. Games and practices can change at a moment's notice and football, field hockey, and soccer team members are welcome to use the main office telephone to call parents/guardians regarding schedule changes.

RamPacks is a CONFIDENTIAL program for families who need assistance with food over weekends. This is a FREE program, without cost to participating students but you must sign up to receive RamPacks. Please fill out this form or contact your child's guidance counselor (lrusso@pennridge.org or mdeflavis@pennridge.org) to sign-up for this program.

1. Please remind students to charge their laptops every night.
2. Please remind students of the importance of listening carefully to AM and PM announcements for up-to-the-minute information that might affect their school day schedule.
3. If your child is going to be absent from school, please call the school office at 215-257-0467 to inform us of the absence, or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for absence (illness, family trip, etc.).
4. If your child is being dismissed early for any reason (dentist appt, doctor appt, family trip, etc.) please call the school office at 215-257-0467 or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for early dismissal.
5. If your child is going to be arriving late to school, please call the school office at 215-257-0467 or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for tardiness (overslept, not feeling well, etc.) to inform us of the late arrival.
6. Notification of absence, early dismissal, or late arrival will help us notify your child's teachers why the student is not in class. Thank you!
