🎉 2nd Senior FAFSA Night 🎓✨
We're thrilled to share that our FAFSA Workshop, held on Thursday, March 28th was an incredible success! MHSHS families joined us for an evening of support and guidance in completing the 2024-2025 FAFSA application. 💰🎓
👨👩👧👦 Our bilingual staff played a crucial role in breaking down language barriers, ensuring every family received the assistance they needed. 🗣️🌟
🔍 Families who encountered challenges with electronically submitting their FAFSA applications received personalized support and guidance from our dedicated team. Whether troubleshooting electronic submissions or completing paper applications, we ensured no family was left behind. 📝✉️
We're incredibly proud of the success of this event and the impact it's had on our community. By providing essential resources and support, we're empowering families to pursue their educational dreams with confidence. 🌟🎓

No Place for Hate Women's History Mural
As we wrap up our No Place for Hate activities for the 2023-2024 school year, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our exceptional team of students and their mentor, Ms. Rowe. 🙌✨
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Tiffany Pulley, Mariana Ramirez, Nathan Patma, Taurasi Austin, Daniela Orellana-Recinos, Alvaro Saldarriaga Arcila, and Kiara Albrieux for their outstanding dedication and contributions.
Together, they've truly excelled in encouraging all students to sign their promises to the tree mural, pledging to keep hate out of our hearts and out of our school, pushing out our "Bias in Our Everyday Lives" lesson, organizing the Poster Contest and Music Video Contest, and creating the inspiring Women's History mural. 🎨🎶 Their passion and hard work have made a significant impact on our school community.
As we look ahead, let's continue to build on this momentum and strive to spread kindness, inclusion, and respect in all that we do. 🌟

Tips for Staying Fit with a Busy Schedule 🕞
Many people want to form new habits that will make them healthier and bring peace. However, that can feel daunting and intimidating. If you’re looking for small ways to make a big impact on your daily health and wellness, this list can help! It’s 30 days’ worth of small changes that, if implemented regularly, can lead you to a happier, healthier, longer life. These small changes don’t require a lot of money, time, or skill. After you implement one, you’ll want to do more because the results are often very significant.
✅ Try a green smoothie – if you’re a regular smoothie drinker, throw in a handful of leafy greens to ramp up the nutrition value of your smoothie. Try this great recipe
✅ Stop and breathe – a quick session of deep breathing can help you feel more relaxed and less stressed. It only takes a moment but can relax your body for hours.
✅ Eat out less – when you cook at home, you know what’s in your food. Processed restaurant food has added sodium and fats and more calories. Even if it’s a simple salad, home cooking is best.
✅ See your physician for a yearly checkup – your physician can keep an eye on what’s going on with your body year after year. Find a doctor and schedule your checkup today.
✅ Try a new healthy food – if you’ve been looking for an excuse to try that kumquat or asparagus, do it! You never know when you’ll find a new favorite healthy snack.
Algebra Concepts and Connections Assessments
During spring 2024, students enrolled in Algebra: Concepts and Connections must take two different assessments in May.
For the 2023-24 SY, new math standards were implemented statewide; this required all new Milestones assessments to be developed. When a new assessment is developed and after it is administered, the state will undergo the process to ensure that the test is neither too easy nor too hard but is just right for the students. The Georgia Department of Education will work through the process during the summer of 2024 and will not provide scores to schools prior to the end of the school year.
- Milestones Algebra End of Course: The End of Course Milestones is required for federal accountability. The student score is used for the state accountability (CCRPI) score for the high school the first year that the student enters high school. Typically, the EOC score is 10% of the student’s final course grade per State Board of Education rule; since scores will not arrive until Fall 2024, we will administer the 2nd Semester Final for Algebra: Concepts and Connections.
- 2nd Semester Final Algebra: Concepts and Connections: For May 2024 only since we won’t have EOC scores to measure student’s learning of the AKS, we will give the 2nd Semester Final for Algebra Concepts and Connections. This will go in the gradebook in the EOC category.
Please share this message with the parents of your students enrolled in Algebra: Concepts & Connections when you feel it is appropriate.

FAFSA Information
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) is the gateway to getting federal student loans, scholarships, grants, and work-study for school, but there can be so much confusion around it.
The FAFSA® used to be a super long application that took a lot of time and effort—that’s now a thing of the past. The FAFSA® for the 2024-2025 academic year is the new and improved version. Check out the link below to see all the changes!
Tips on how to avoid these common FAFSA® mistakes
Every year, families postpone filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). Some skip it entirely because they think it’s a waste of time, the application is too long, or it's only a fast track to federal student loans. However, the FAFSA® package can also include college scholarships, work-study, and grants. Not filling it out—the most costly FAFSA® mistake—can result in losing money that could have helped you pay for college. Don’t be that student, and make sure you avoid these common FAFSA® mistakes by checking out the article link below!
GCPS ParentSquare Resources
GCPS has transitioned from SchoolMessenger to ParentSquare for two-way communication between schools and families, and we encourage all families to download the app and create an account. With its user-friendly interface, ParentSquare offers seamless two-way communication through text, newsletters, posts, emergency alerts, and direct messaging. One of our favorite features is the integrated translation feature, which enables automatic translations for multilingual families.
