Summer Update - July 2024
June 25th, 2024
A Summer Prayer 🙏
Long warm days...
The pace of life slows...
A time for picnics and rest in the shade...
Lord, help me to rest awhile
in the cooling shade of your presence.
Slow down my restless heart and fill me
with gentle compassion for all your people.
Amen.

A LETTER FROM YOUR NEW (BUT NOT SO NEW) PRINCIPAL 😁
To my Bruin Family,
I hope beyond all hope that everyone is enjoying a restful summer break and soaking in some extra family time along with that warm summer sun!
As it is July 1st, I am overjoyed to officially write to this community for the first time as the Principal of St. Dorothy Catholic School. I've served in this community as an educator since 2016 and I am thrilled to assume the role of principal and continue my service to the students, parents, faculty, and staff as well as the community at large. It is evident that the community at St. Dorothy Catholic School is strong and I am eager to continue fostering that sense of community both on and off campus. I've spent the beginning part of my summer reading your parent surveys and learning about what you, the parents, value as part of your child's education, as well as their social and emotional well being, at St. Dorothy Catholic School. Rest assured that your feedback is instrumental as I continue to plan for the school year and refine my vision for the continued success of our Bruins.
As we enter into this new school year with new leadership, I look forward to speaking with all of you and hearing your thoughts, ideas, and aspirations for our school. My door will always be open, and I encourage you to share your feedback and suggestions with me. Together, we can continue to create a learning environment that supports every child's journey toward success.
I want to thank you for all of the support and encouragement I've received since the announcement of my promotion. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and am committed to the continued success and improvement of St. Dorothy Catholic School.
I can't wait to see you all again in August as we kick off another fantastic school year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff

CHILD SAFETY 🚨
Did You Know?
July 6-7 || Who is a mandated reporter?
In California, a mandated reporter is a professional who is required to report instances or suspected instances of child abuse. Mandated reporters include doctors, medical examiners, health care facility workers, daycare workers, school employees, and members of the clergy. Volunteers of public or private organizations whose duties require direct contact with, and supervision of children are not mandated reporters but are encouraged to obtain training in the identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles encourages all in our church to speak up to the appropriate authorities if any form of child abuse is suspected. Find out more about mandated reporters at childwelfare.gov.
July 13-14 || Summer safety tips: Ways to prevent unintentional drowning deaths
Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death for children 5-14 years old, and every year in the United States there are more than 4,000 unintentional drowning deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Preventing unsupervised access to water, providing constant, active adult supervision and knowing how to swim are critical layers of protection to help prevent drowning. For more information, visit www.cdc.gov and redcross.org.
Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
