Math Professional Development
As part of SUHSD's investment in improving math achievement for all students, math teachers and math co-teaching Ed Specialists will participate in a day of professional development next semester. The goals of the professional development include for participants to:
- Understand the shifts in expectations in mathematics from careers and colleges
- Discuss the new policies and trends in college admissions and math requirements
- Look at examples of recent changes in assessments including SAT and SBAC
- Highlight features of a rigorous mathematics high school program and how the notions of rigor have changed in light of the previous two points.
- Define and understand the dimensions of a "Mathematically Powerful Classroom" using TRU Math
- Learn about how to utilize instructional shifts and strategies to develop mathematically powerful classrooms
- Address beliefs and expectations regarding issues of social justice
Four PD Day Options
Please select one of these dates by clicking on your preferred date below. There are 28 spaces available on each day because of sub capacity. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

All will be held in the Birch Conference Room at the District Office from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm. Breakfast and lunch will be served. After you sign up, you will be sent a budget code for a sub request form.
Our Facilitators
Dr. Patrick Callahan
Dr. Callahan has held a variety of positions in different areas of mathematics education, including the Executive Director of the University of California Science and Mathematics Initiative, and the Statewide Co-Director of the California Mathematics Project.
David Foster
Founder and Executive Director, The Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative.
The Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative is comprised of over 150 members including school districts, individual schools and educational organizations.
Cecilio Dimas
Partner and Director of Innovation and Strategy, Silicon Valley Math Initiative.
