Benchmarks and 9/10 Starters
Thank you for all your hard work on leveling! In the rollup I sent out, there was information that we believed were STAAR scores. These are actually predicted scores based on the benchmark. I am attaching the Riskbook below if you would like to use it to determine STAAR scores, but that step will be waived for this quarter.
If you have any students who have completed the benchmark since the rollup was created, don't panic! You don't need to redo the entire process. Take those students, compare their scores to the quartiles you have set, and then place them into the small group where their data best fits. This will mean that some of your groups will be uneven -- this is OKAY. We will have students completing benchmarks for the next several weeks as we onboard more students, and this is the process we will use for them.
While any other pre-9/10 assignments will be exempted, please encourage your 9/10 starters to complete the benchmark. We need this data as a baseline, and also to be able to compare their scores to the 8/27 starters and use the process above to put them into an appropriate small group, so that they aren't "groupless" for the rest of the quarter.
For those of you who have leveled small groups but were NOT able to use USATestPrep, please download your gradebook, sort by grade, and then divide those groups into quarters. You can use the Assignment Statistics in D2L to help you determine which questions (and, therefore, which SEs) were lowest. If you do not have leveled groups, please look at your assignment data as described above and determine which SEs you need to emphasize in your regular classes, as well as your small groups. A lead is working on a Screencast video to help you find this information.
Thank you again for your hard work on this project! It will be easier next time, and our data shows that it DOES have an impact on student performance!
Park Day Outing -- Friday, September 14th
Please make sure you are signed up for a Park Day outing if you are within 60 miles ONE WAY of a location.
Action Item: Expense Reports
When you are creating an expense report, the Business Purpose should always answer the question as to “why” the expenses were incurred by the employee. Please be specific in this line or your report will be returned to you. Please ignore the part of the QRG that says to use "General." This is incorrect.
Examples of acceptable Business Purposes:
· XXX Conference, Memphis, TN

· WAVA Site Visit
· B2B Meeting, April 2014
· Sales Meeting, Herndon Office
· Hoosier Kick Off/Admin Meetings

USA TestPrep Expectations
As we talked about during PD, all courses that have access to USATestPrep will include one assignment a week that covers the TEKS that were taught for that week. There should be 10 total assignments for this semester and each assignment should be worth 5 points.
Texting with Families
Starting on July 1, students and families can’t be texted unless they have opted into receiving texts. If you receive a text from a parent or student, you can’t respond until you can verify that they have opted-in.
You will be able to locate this information in TotalView Action, but for right now it only appears to be in TotalView School on the overview tab at the bottom of the Student Information column.
Parents opt-in as part of enrollment. If you receive an email from a parent that says that you ARE allowed to text/Skype with their student, please copy and paste the ENTIRE EMAIL as a note in TVS. Then you can change the Opt-In to "yes."
NOTE: This applies to Skype as well. If a student sends you a Skype message, please respond with "Thank you for your note! I need to verify that your parent or guardian has given permission for text messaging. Once I verify, I will be happy to respond. If your parent or guardian has not approved text messaging, I will respond by email. Thank you!"
