MES Monday Messenger
November 13, 2023
Admin Corner
We are committed to our targeted learning focus for the school:
Ponder, Persevere and Prove It!
Lost & Found
This is the last week to claim lost and found items. We would love all items to be returned to their proper owner. Please stop by the front of the school to look for lost sweatshirts, jackets, gloves, lunch boxes and more. All items will be taken to donation on Friday 11/17/23 at 12:35pm.
Academic Conference Week
MES will have minimum days Monday-Friday November 13-17 with dismissal at 12:35. This is due to academic conferences which will be held in each classroom. Please be in touch with your child's teacher to get a conference appointment. This is a great time to check in with your child's teacher and ask questions about your child's progress.
Changing Weather
As the weather changes, please be sure to send your child to school with warm clothing. We play outside nearly everyday, rain, snow or shine! Children should have good layers, snow hats, gloves, waterproof jackets and snow pants as well as snow boots when we get into the winter. If your child is in need of any of these items, please reach out to Mrs. McMillian as we may have clothing available to donate.
Cross Country Ski PE
Sign Ups for Cross Country Skiing will begin the week of November 13th during Conference Week. The program is for students in grades 3-5 only and will run concurrently with the Ski and Snowboard PE program. There is only room for 30 students and is filled on a first come first served basis. Forms can be picked up in the office, or in Room 26.
The program has a $5 donation each week and the skiers leave at 12:30, returning by the 2:40 dismissal. There is no need to rent ski equipment for this program as the participants get their equipment at Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center when we go each week!
If you have questions, please email Mrs. Quirsfeld mquirsfeld@mammothsud.org
Ski & Snowboard PE
This is a reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, November 14, 2023, is the last day of Ski PE sign-ups. The sign-ups are in the MES library from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.
Don't forget that there are scholarships available.
Click here more information regarding the ski/snowboard PE program at MES.
We practice number sense routines weekly. Utilizing the image below with students in grades 2-5, you can practice these math skills at home as well. See what your student thinks about this week's image of the week. By clicking the link in the title above, you can explore even more math resources for your child.
BONUS** Write down your student's or family's ideas by Friday, and turn it into the office for a little surprise!
Attendance
Daily attendance is so important. Please remember to have your student attend every day and arrive on time to school. Our goal is to get above 95% daily attendance!
Last week our average was 92%. Grade level attendance percentages were as follows:
TK - 94%
K - 92%
1 - 96%🌟
2 - 88%
3 - 91%
4 - 90%
5 - 91%
We have a new system integrated with our attendance program that is making automated contact with families when a student is marked absent. If you have already called in your child's attendance for the day, you can ignore the message. If you have not already made contact, please call our attendance hotline to report why @ 760-934-7162. If your child’s absence is not reported, it is considered truant. Also note that this is a monitored line for leaving an attendance message only. You will not receive a call back.
PTO Meeting
Mono Arts Council
We are excited to present our next artist, MC Escher! Maurits Cornelis Escher was a Dutch graphic artist who worked in multiple mediums during his lifetime, which spanned the first half of the 20th century.
His works are best known for being mathematically inspired, and are often called "impossible drawings" as they use tessellations to transform a singular shape from one image to another.
In these lessons, your children will be learning about using positive and negative space, shared lines as well as how to create these tessellations!
To learn more, follow this LINK to the MC Escher website.
