PORT ANGELES SCHOOL DISTRICT
NEWS AND NOTES - September 2024
What's on the ballot this November?
The Port Angeles School District is gearing up for an important vote this November to renew the Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy and pass a bond for much-needed school replacements and renovations. These measures are vital to maintaining the quality of education and ensuring safe, modern learning environments for our students.
The Plan is Working!
Because the two proposed measures are replacing existing levies that are expiring, tax rates are projected to stay stable! While other taxes have increased, the districted remains committed to maintaining a stable tax rate for our community.
Proposition 1: Renewal of the EP&O Levy
For decades, the EP&O Levy has been a cornerstone of our school district’s ability to fund critical programs and services not fully covered by state funding. This includes athletics, music education, school nurses, counselors, special education, and transportation. The renewal, which spans from 2026 to 2029, is essential for continuing these programs that benefit every student in the district.
Without this levy, many of the extracurricular and essential services that define our students’ school experience will face cuts and/or elimination. The total amount proposed for this renewal is $34.7 million over four years, with a levy rate of $1.40 per $1,000 of assessed property value. This bond will replace the 2020 Capital Levy, keeping tax rates stable!
Proposition 2: Bond for School Replacement & Renovation
In addition to the levy, the district is proposing a $140 million bond to replace aging Franklin Elementary School and Port Angeles High School facilities, including renovation of the Performing Arts Center. Both schools are outdated, with facilities that haven’t seen major renovations since the 1970s. The 20-year bond will help fund critical safety upgrades, new instructional buildings, and improvements to outdated structures, creating a safer and more effective learning environment for students.
Please remember to vote by Tuesday, November 5, 2024
- Voting Period: Oct. 18 - Nov. 5
- Online Registration Deadline: Oct. 28

NOHN MOBILE HEALTH CLINIC
North Olympic Healthcare Network would like to inform Port Angeles School District staff and families of the changes in how the NOHN Mobile Health Clinic (MHC) will provide its services during the 2024-25 school year. We hope to serve your students better by making the following adjustments:
- Registering for the MHC: The MHC packet attached here should be completed by the parent or guardian of the student who would like to access any of NOHN's services. New registration paperwork will have to be submitted even if the patient was seen on the MHC in previous years. All completed paperwork can be dropped off at any of NOHN's locations (1026 E 1st St, 933 E 1st St, or 240 W Front St), or emailed directly to MHC@nohn-pa.org. For assistance coordinating paperwork or addressing barriers to care such as transportation to appointments, please reach out to the NOHN Mobile Health Team (Office: 360-452-7891 x3011, Cell: 360-912-6770) or PASD Family Navigator Alicia Scofield (Office: 360-565-3706, Cell: 360-809-0642).
- Counseling/Behavioral Health:
- For students K-5, rather than completing the first appointment on the Mobile Health Unit when it is on campus our MHC team will schedule the patient and the accompanying parent/guardian to be seen at NOHN's Eastside Health Clinic in Port Angeles at 933 East 1st Street. Once this first appointment to establish the patient has been completed, the family will be able to continue via telehealth at a location of their convenience.
- For Lincoln High School students, their first appointment will be scheduled at NOHN's Eastside Health Clinic in Port Angeles at 933 East 1st Street. Once this first appointment to establish the patient has been completed, the student can choose to continue having appointments at the same location or continue via telehealth.
- For Port Angeles High School students, Kristine Johnson will continue to provide in-person counseling once per week on Tuesday afternoons.
- For Stevens Middle School students, Jill Guss will continue to see students via telehealth. The MHC will be on SMS campus twice per week on Tuesday and Friday mornings so that students can attend their appointments aboard the unit.
- Medical: All students who register for services will continue to have priority access to be seen by a medical provider in NOHN's brick-and-mortar clinics within 48 hours.
- Dental: The MHC will now be able to provide dental screenings as a service. Families who wish to have their child screened should register using both the MHC packet and the Oral Health Screening Consent Form attached here. The MHC will be on campus for these planned screening dates which will be communicated to each school's staff and families with as much notice as possible.
To stay up to date about any changes to the MHC Schedule, you can view the calendar listed on NOHN's Website. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our team if there are any questions that can be cleared up. We look forward to serving your kids in this new school year!
