March 18, 2025
Dear TUFSD Families and Staff,
I can hardly believe we’re already halfway through March. In just the past week, we’ve had so many wonderful events, and I want to express my gratitude to everyone whose dedication helped make them a success.
Our STEAM Night was an evening of discovery and innovation. Students showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills through interactive stations in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Thank you to everyone who helped organize this inspiring night of learning and exploration.
Bravo to the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who made Mamma Mia! the highlight of the season. Our students delivered outstanding performances, demonstrating their hard work and talent on stage.
Finally, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade was a fantastic celebration of community spirit. It was wonderful to see so many students, staff, and families come together to represent our district with pride. Thank you to everyone who participated and showed their support along the parade route.
These events have once again highlighted the strength and spirit of our community. Thank you for your continued support of our students and schools. We look forward to more opportunities to come together in the months ahead.
Sincerely,
Dr. Raymond Sanchez

Budget Meeting
Last Saturday, the Board of Education held its annual Budget Workshop to continue discussions on the 2025-2026 proposed budget. The meeting provided an opportunity to review key financial considerations and address priorities. We encourage you to visit our website for more information.
Start Times and Transportation
As we prepare for the reopening of Tappan Hill School next year, our district has been carefully studying school start times to ensure they align with and support our new grade configurations. Our key transportation priority remains ensuring that students can travel to and from school safely and efficiently.
Balancing factors such as ride times, school start and end times, and equitable service for all families creates a complex set of challenges. After thorough analysis, we are prepared to present at the upcoming Board of Education meeting on March 20, 2025 an overview of a proposed transportation solution for the 2025-26 school year.
Literacy Review
A team of District educators will soon be presenting recommendations for literacy programming at the April Board of Education meeting. Their recommendations will help guide decisions on enhancing literacy instruction and supporting student learning.
Exciting News: Our School Joins the Tri-State Blue Schools Network!
We are thrilled to announce that our middle school has been awarded a prestigious grant to advance ocean literacy in our classrooms! This incredible opportunity, funded by The Prada Group and managed by the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA), officially connects us to the Tri-State Blue Schools Network, a part of the larger USA Blue Schools Network.
Through this grant, students in our Marine Biology Club are leading a hands-on project to explore and document local marine life. Their work includes creating an online database featuring fauna identified from the Hudson River at Kingsland Point, as well as producing a beautifully illustrated booklet to be shared with our community—complete with student-created artwork!
We are especially excited to earn our Blue School Certification at the end of this two-year journey. Deborah McCarl, 7th grade science teacher, and Becky Collins, 6th grade science teacher, applied for and are implementing this grant and bringing this incredible opportunity to our students.
Stay tuned for updates as our students dive into this amazing marine science adventure!
