Course Outline
8:45 - 9:15 Refreshments and Registration.
9:15 - 11:00 Exploring the benefits of film for reading and writing.
In this session, Rob will explore a range of still and moving image media, demonstrating their value to the reading and writing process through analysis and questioning. The session will look at how a director’s choice to portray something can be used by teachers to inspire discussions and hook students in.
11:00 - 11:20 Break and refreshments
11:20 - 12:30 Film making (the basics)
Using just one iPad in your classroom? Dominic will demonstrate how to carry out traditional literacy lessons with a digital twist using very basic techniques and free apps. We will explore how simple film making tasks motivate all pupils to improve their writing. (Even the reluctant ones!) By producing a short film trailer, Dom will show you just how easy it is to produce something of professional quality which fulfills the requirements of the National Curriculum.
12:30 - 1:30 Lunch
1:30 - 2:30 - Developing film making skills.
Having used basic techniques in the first film making session, this session will expand both the range of writing genres and the apps that you can use to achieve an even more impressive outcome. Simple green screening, voice-overs and photo montages will be used to produce a short film that will give hours of outstanding teaching techniques to take into the classroom.
2:30 - 3:30 Film story scaffolds.
Films tell a story; in this session Rob will demonstrate how the stories told in films can be used as scaffolds to help students create their own narratives. Rob will explain how films can be broken down into scenes and shots and what role each of these has within the narrative.
3:30 Home time
£149 per ticket or £250 for two
