Happy New Year!
I hope you had a wonderful two weeks at home and we can't wait to see you back on Monday, January 6, 2025
Mid-Year Assessments
Students will be completing mid-year assessments: NWEA MAP and FastBridge. These reading and math assessments are used to measure progress throughout the year and give teachers data on adjusting interventions within and outside of the classroom at our upcoming data meeting review.
If you can avoid scheduling appointments or arriving late on your MAP testing days listed below that would be appreciated so that students have the best testing environment possible.
STEM Night Coming Up!
Save the Date for Gower's Annual STEM Night and Science Showcase on January 30th from 6-7:30 pm at Gower West. This event is open to all K-8 families and will include a variety of STEM activities and an opportunity to give feedback to our 4th-8th grade Scientists and Engineers. Students in grades 4-8 can still turn in their Science Showcase Registration Forms by December 19th (extended due date) to their Science Teacher. This is a great opportunity for students to work as individuals or with a partner outside of school to explore a science or engineering topic and showcase their research on January 30th.
Winter Weather
Please remember to send your child to school dressed for the weather! We will venture outside each day as long as the "real feel" temperature is higher than 10 degrees (according to weather.com). We highly encourage students to wear hats, gloves, snow pants and warm coats daily!
When snow is on the ground, snow pants and boots are required to play in the field. (Those students without snow pants and boots will play on the plowed blacktop or playground equipment.) We are outside for 25 minutes so bundle up! Playing outside is always more enjoyable when we are warm!
Label your items
Please label, hats, gloves, coats, water bottles and sweaters or sweatshirts. Three full bags of items were donated over break as they had not been claimed and did not have a name. Only a few items had labels of names. These items were kept and will be returned to students.
