December Theme: Generosity 💗
3 upcoming event announcements from our AMAZING PTCO!
Dine-to-donate at California Pizza Kitchen!
On Tuesday, December 17th California Pizza Kitchen (8343 S Park Meadows Center Dr.) is donating back a percentage of dine-in, takeout & pick-up orders to support our PTCO! Visit the restaurant between 11am-9pm on Dec. 17 and use promo code BACK20% if ordering online (or mention our school's fundraiser to your server if dining in!). More details and RSVP here: https://grouprai.se/e283560.
Remember that funds raised go towards the enrichment of all of our Walnut Hills Elementary students this year!
We need volunteers for the Walnut Hills service project!
Our Walnut Hills community will be coming together for a school-
wide service project during the school day on Friday, Dec. 20 in partnership with the non-profit Project Our Town. Each class will put together Bean Soup Kits that will be used by the organization to feed Denver families. But we need help!
We need 8-10 parent/guardian volunteers per grade to come help
students assemble these kits. Each volunteer slot is only 30 minutes!
Thank you!
Winter Game Night is coming up!
Our annual Winter Game Night is January 24 from 6-7:30 and we cannot wait! There will be free pizza and juice, games, prizes and more. Check the PTCO website for the latest details on the event and make sure to RSVP here so we can make sure we have enough food and prizes for all attendees!
Author Visit for 1st - 3rd Grade!
We have another exciting Author Visit planned at Walnut Hills for January 14, 2025! Our 1st through 3rd grade students will be visited by Kentrell Martin. Kentrell is the author of the Shelly Goes book series. He will read one of his books with the students and include an interactive lesson in American Sign Language (ASL).
Students will learn around 40 ASL signs, including animal names, colors, numbers and greetings.
Growing up with a Deaf brother, Mr. Martin saw how the world viewed Deaf people. He created Shelly’s Adventure series as a company that will play a part in helping bridge the gap between the Deaf and the hearing worlds. Now he travels the country reading his books and teaching ASL to students.
We are very excited to host Kentrell Martin here at Walnut Hills!

CCSD Winter Reading Bingo!
There's 'SNOW' better time to read than over Winter Break! Enjoy your extra time and cozy up with a good book or two. To keep you motivated, Cherry Creek School District has created a Winter Reading Bingo chart. It's full of ideas of what to read, when and where! What's better than reading a good book in a pillow fort in your pajamas? See how many squares you can fill. Happy Reading!
If you need access to more great books over the break when our Library is closed, please consider checking our online selection on Sora. Books can be borrowed free of charge and downloaded onto personal devices or computers. You can access ebooks, magazines and even listen to audiobooks. Students just need their school email and student ID to login! Here is an overview of Sora including instructions on how to get started.
Best Regards,

a Message from the Walnut Hills Civic Association Board
Do you live in the Walnut Hills Neighborhood? Do you love Holiday Lights and Decorations?
Don’t miss seeing some of the amazing Holiday Lights and Decorations that are going up around the neighborhood. If you decorate an amazing house every year or just like looking at other people’s displays, join us in the Walnut Hills Civic Assocation’s Second Annual Holiday Lights Tour & Contest.
Let us know where to go: Fill out this quick form before Saturday 12/14 to let us know that your home should be added to the WHCA Tour Map. If in doubt, fill it out - There will be overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place cash-prize winners as well as a few fun superlative “bragging rights” awards - think “Best use of inflatables,” “Grinchiest Display,” etc.
Help us pick the winners: Mark your calendars and make an evening of it on Monday 12/16. Drive by the WHCA booth at 6944 S Willow Street between 5:00 and 7:00 pm to pick up a map of houses on the tour, a ballot so you can weigh in on the contest winners, and a cup of hot cocoa to enjoy as you drive around and get in the holiday spirit!
Winners will be announced on Facebook page and the Walnut Hills Website on Monday, December 23. Contact Jenny at the Walnut Hills Civic Association with any questions.

Holiday Season and School Attendance: A Reminder
As the holidays approach, we know many families have exciting plans, but we want to remind you of the importance of maintaining regular school attendance during this time. The weeks before the break are often filled with critical lessons, assessments, and preparations for the new term. Missing school can create gaps in learning that are difficult to catch up on. Make-up work does not fully help students recover missed instruction, and one student’s absence impacts classmates’ progress due to the collaborative nature of learning.
Every school day counts in helping your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We encourage you to plan travel and events around the school calendar whenever possible. If you know your child will be absent, please let us know in advance so we can support their continued learning.
Thank you for helping us meet our attendance goals. Wishing you a joyful and safe holiday season!
Parent Engagement Opportunities
P.A.S.S
Cherry Creek School District is committed to Inclusive Excellence which means raising the achievement of ALL students, closing the gap between the highest and lowest performing students, and eliminating the predictability of achievement by race.
Partnerships for Academically Successful Students (P.A.S.S) is a committee of school and family leaders that supports the district's goal of Inclusive Excellence. P.A.S.S provides a place to share resources and ideas while fostering the intentional building of relationships between the school and parent communities in an effort to create an inclusive learning environment for ALL students.
Walnut Hills Elementary families are always invited to attend our monthly meetings, and if you were part of our P.A.S.S team in previous years we would love for you to rejoin the team.
Our next P.A.S.S meeting is Tuesday January 28th, 2025
