News from Westfield Elementary: April 19, 2024
Westfield Principal Kristen Ulery
Westfield families:
We have now completed IAR testing for grades 3-5. Fifth grade will take the state science assessment next week. Thank you for supporting your kids and getting them to school on assessment days.
There are many fun PTC events planned in the coming weeks, as well as the ABC countdown, which starts next week, so be sure to check out that information so you don't miss out!
Have a good weekend!

Westfield Principal
ABC Countdown
As a fun activity for the end of the school year, we will be doing the ABC Countdown, which incorporates a fun theme or activity for each day of the last 26 days of school. We will start with the letter A on Thursday, April 25 and have an activity for each letter of the alphabet until we reach Z on the last day of school.
Participation in things like dress-up themes is optional, but we are sharing the whole month at once so you can plan ahead if you wish to join in.
Attendance procedures
Classroom teachers take attendance in PowerSchool first thing in the morning when the bell rings, so students who are not in the classroom are marked absent. If your child arrives after the 8:50 a.m. bell, it's important for you to sign them in at the office because those sign in sheets are used to change the attendance to show that the student did arrive at school.
If your child is arriving late due to an appointment, it is helpful to notify us in advance. If we are not aware that the child is arriving late, and they come in after attendance is entered, you may receive a notification that your child is absent; however, the attendance will be changed to present after the child is signed in.
It is critical you complete registration for 2024-25 school year ASAP

Resources for helping your child through difficult times
Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis
Celebrate music at the April 20 Music Café
The Music Boosters and music teachers are excited to welcome the community to the annual Music Café, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at Glen Crest. Guests will enjoy a light breakfast while listening to performances from band, chorus, and orchestra students. The Music Café raises money for supplies and experiences for music students in all five schools. More info: https://bit.ly/4ckwYV6

Fundhub clarification
The Music Booster's received a couple questions and asked us to share the following info regarding Music Cafe:
Because Westfield PTC will also be using Fundhub for its spring sprint coming up in May, when parents log in, some are seeing the Westfield fundraiser only and not Music Cafe. All you have to do is select “Add to new school” and use the Music Cafe school identifier “6400f1a603328” and Music Cafe will appear as well.
Hope this helps with registration and thanks for participating in our online fundraiser! Please feel free to contact us at ccsd89music@gmail.com if you need further help.
