Principal's Note
Parents,
Welcome back to a new school year here at LCE! We are so excited to embark on the year with our wonderful teachers and students. Our first week was a huge success thanks to everyone who calls LCE home. We also want to extend a special welcome to all those who are new to our school. You will find that LCE is a special place and we pride ourselves on maintaining a family friendly environment. At LCE every student matters!
Our first week of school consisted of reviewing procedures and routines. Students spent time getting to know one another and their teachers through fun activities focusing on building relationships. Campus expectations were also reviewed which consist of three simple rules: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe. Students will continue to learn more about campus expectations as the year progresses. Our goal is to create an environment where all students can learn and grow with one another.
This year we will focus on specific aspects of instruction to ensure every student has the opportunity to learn in the best way that suits their needs. Continuous planning and review of data will drive our instructional focus and methods for the year. At LCE our philosophy is every student grows every year! We encourage all parents to take an active role in their students' education by meeting with teachers and establishing a strong partnership that will support student achievement. There will be lots of opportunities throughout the year where parents will be invited to participate in special events in order to learn more about our school. We do hope to see more parents at these events as they happen.
If you have not joined PTO there is still time. Membership is only $5. This year we are hoping for more participation in the organization. Our parents are a vital part of our campus. We cannot achieve the success we anticipate without the support of our parents. 100% of the money raised through membership goes right back to our campus.
Parent lunch visitors will begin September 2nd. Lunch visitors are permitted Monday through Thursday only. No lunch visitors on Fridays. You may bring in outside food only for your student during their designated lunch times. Tables are provided for parents to eat lunch with his/her student outside the cafeteria. Please check for your child's lunch schedule. Outside food is only permitted if parents are staying to eat lunch with their student. No food drop-off without parents staying for lunch.
Dismissal procedures are running much smoother particularly at parent pick up. Remember that cars with tags ending in odd numbers load in the left lane and cars with tags ending with even numbers load in the right lane. For parents who need to buckle students into car seats please pull up to the parking lot directly behind the cafeteria to secure your child in a car seat. This will prevent back up and allow for cars to move through the line quickly. Our goal is to get students loaded into vehicles under 25 min. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
As you begin the week ahead here are a few reminders:
School starts promptly at 7:40AM. Students not present in their class are counted tardy. 5 or more tardies or early check-outs are equal to 1 unexcused absences.
Student personal cell phones must be turned off/silent and stored in students' backpacks at all times. Cell phones will be confiscated if students have it out or in their pockets. Please see the MVISD policy regarding cell phones.
Any change in transportation must be communicated through a handwritten note, signed by a parent, and sent in the students folder. Parents may also use the Change In Transportation link from the LCE webpage.
Student car tags should be firmly secured to students' backpacks at all times. Please contact the front office if you are missing a car tag.
Parent contact information should be current and updated as needed in Skyward. It is imperative to have a good working cell phone number if the school needs to make contact with parents in the event of an emergency.

Counselor's Corner
We are excited to begin a new year and have several systems in place to support our students. Soon we will be scheduling our first visit in the classrooms to introduce ourselves and share how students can utilize us or self-refer throughout the year. Part of our lessons come from the district Social Emotional curriculum of CharacterStrong, which highlights a different character trait each month. September’s character trait is Respect.
We have a new social worker on campus, Ms. Allison. She is coming from Castroville Elementary, is bilingual and is a great asset to our team!
Students needing support with school supplies can reach out to our counselors by notifying their teacher, or parents are welcome to email or call.

School Supplies Donation Request
We do not have the following school supplies and would appreciate any help with donations! Stores will soon be discounting items, so please pick up a few to donate if you can and deliver them to the front office or send them with your student at school with a note. Items are given to students AND teachers in need to use in the classroom throughout the year. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Items in need: composition books, colored pencils, plastic school supply box
Items in low supply: wide ruled notebook paper, plastic folders with brads, kleenex
Community First Food Pantry
LCE is hosting a community Food Pantry. It is located in the front of the school and is accessible 24/7. Inventory is checked weekly to ensure there are items available.
It is accessible to families in need. If you are in great need, please contact the counseling department and we can provide additional resources.
Military Families
We know the challenges and sacrifices that come with moving to a new location, so we are excited to continue a mentoring program partnering with the MVHS JROTC cadets. The MVHS mentors will be paired up with referred LCE students with the goal being to establish rapport, build connections, and help by being a positive role model to the student. Many of the mentors have had similar experiences since they have parents in the military too. This program is for active duty military families only with children that may be struggling with the transition. Please reach out to Mrs. Rakowitz to learn more and if this program would be a good fit for your child.

Anchored4Life
Our Anchored4Life program will kick off in October, but we have student leaders from last year who are ready to support at any time! If you are a military family that has a parent deployed, soon to deploy or soon to return, reach out to our campus Military Liaison. We have free support kits that are given to students!

Our Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students) and M.O.M.S (Moms of Marvelous Students) allow positive adult role models to take part in the school day. They are extra eyes and ears on campus and have the opportunity to be a part of their child’s (or grandchild/niece/nephew) education.
Coach's Corner
This week was a great start to the 2024-2025 School Year. It was great seeing the students come back and LaCoste is glad to see new students to the Cubs Family. As we start another year, if you can make sure your child or children have the proper shoes when they come to PE. If your child or children are sick and cannot participate in PE please provide a note with your child or children when they come to PE. We will always work with you on this matter but communication is key. This year the After School Sports Program will have two other Sports along with Golf and it is open to 4th and 5th Only (Boys and Girls). Mrs. Morrow will also help with the After School Sports Program. The Sports schedule is below.
Permission forms have to be signed by the Legal Guardian and student to participate and must be returned and turned into the PE Department to participate. The Program will follow UIL Rules and my way of running the After School Sports Program. If your child or children participate they will need to be picked up no later than 4:30PM. A bus will not be provided for this Sports Program so please keep that in mind. If they are picked up 3 times after 4:30PM within the Sport season they will not be able to participate any longer for the remainder of the current Sport Season. The next Sport Season they will be able to participate but if they are picked up late 2 times within the Sport Season they will not be able to participate any longer in the After School Sports program for the remainder of the year.
If your child and or children are not passing they cannot sign up for the designated Sport Season. While participating in the after school sports program if their grades go below failing, they will not be able to participate any longer until they bring their grades up to passing.
Also if a student gets a referral, they are not allowed to participate in the sports program for the designated sport season. If the student does not get another referral then they can participate in the next designated sport season. If a student gets a referral while in the Sports Program they will not be able to continue with the current sport season and will not be allowed to participate in the next designated sport season.
