We have had another successful week at Cedar! As a reminder, there will be no school Tuesday, November 6th. Please continue to log-in to parent portal to check your student’s tardies, attendance, and grades. We are quickly approaching the end of the semester, so please encourage your Jag student to power through and do their best. Counseling News

ASVAB Testing

The ASVAB will be administered at Cedar Shoals High School November 7, 2018 from 9 a.m. until Noon. The ASVAB is used to assist students with career exploration, identify a potential career path, and to determine which branch of the military you are qualified to enlist in. Please stop by the Counseling Office to sign up. It's FREE.

9th grade Ice Cream Incentive

On Wednesday, October 31st, 9th grade students who are passing all of their classes were treated to an ice cream party courtesy of Lil' Ice Cream Dude. Congratulations to all who earned this incentive and keep up the good work!

Cedar Theater All-Stars!

The Cedar Theater department recently received a ranking of Superior at the One Act competition for its production of Whose Life is it Anyways? Additionally,

two actors were named to the All-Star line-up, Ana Cabral and Dameria Jordan

and BEST ACTRESS for our region!!: Havivah Saltz.

Athletic News

Senior Night!

Join us tonight, Friday, November 2nd at 7:30 p.m. for the last home football game of the season vs. Buford High School. Tonight's game is also Senior Night where our Senior football players, cheerleaders, and band members will be recognized.

Can't make it the football game tonight?

WJAG-TV and BluePrints Magazine staff members will be broadcasting this Friday's football game live against Walnut Grove. The Jaguars can clinch a home playoff game with either a win or a Clarke Central loss in their game against Buford. Basketball Cheerleading Tryouts

Tryouts for Basketball Cheerleading will take place starting November 7-9th at 4:00 p.m. in the gym. Everyone who wishes to tryout must have an updated physical on file or in hand. Please contact Ms. Willis if you have any questions.

Basketball Fundraiser

In need of some Jag Swag? The basketball team is selling short and long-sleeved Polo shirts and a Jacket (personalized), October 30 - November 16th. To order, follow the link in the attached document.

Swim Team Fundraiser

Here's another option for spirit wear! The swim team is selling t-shirts, hoodies, and towels. The shirts and hoodies are the sport/performance type material and feature a custom design by one of our students.

Student Clubs and Activities

Beta Club needs donations for Christmas Shoe boxes

Help children in need have an amazing Christmas! The Cedar Shoals Beta Club is accepting donations for Christmas Shoe Boxes. The program is part of Operation Christmas Child run by the Christian Group Samaritan's Purse. The shoe boxes are filled with gifts, hygiene items, school supplies, and so much more which then are distributed to children all around the globe. The shoe boxes are small therefore large objects aren't allowed but other donations will be largely appreciated although some restrictions are in place. A donation box will be set up in the front office and a donation and restriction list can be accessed here. For any information please contact Mary Lynn Zimpfer at (706)546-5375 ext. 21391.

Korean Club

We are looking for a sponsor to start a Korean Club at Cedar. Please email Ms. Richburg at richburgk@clarke.k12.ga.us if you are interested.

Interact Club

Interact will be meeting on Tuesday, November 13th in room C109. Our club's motto is "Service Before Self." We participate in various volunteer opportunities for our school and community such as Talent Show for charity, local walks/runs for charity, environmental clean-ups, and canned goods drive. Contact Ms. Moore at mooreb@clarke.k12.ga.us for more information.

Scholarships and Programs

Cavalier Scholarship

The Cavaliers’ Club of Athens will award a $500.00 cash scholarship to a graduating high school student who meets the criteria listed in the attached document The applicant will be judged on academic achievement, community service, school involvement, and letters of recommendation. Please complete the application by March 1, 2019.

Walton EMC Scholarship

Please see the attached letter from Walton EMC that tells you about the Walton EMC Scholarship. Eleven scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded for 2019. The scholarship application postmark deadline is Friday, January 18, 2019.

DAWGS for Diabetes Walk at UGA

Families of children with type 1 diabetes have extra concerns when it comes to transitioning from high school to college- we want to address those concerns!

We invite you and your family to attend on Sunday, November 4th from 11-4 PM at the University of Georgia!

Please RSVP by Saturday, October 27th. You will be able to register after this date, but we ask that you please submit a donation to cover last-minute costs.

The event is free for families impacted by type 1, but we do accept donations!

Georgia Business Aviation Scholarship

Georgia Business Aviation Association has Scholarship opportunities available for those students interested in pursuing a Career in Business Aviation.

Please feel free to share attached flyer with your fellow educators and students.

Since 2004, the GBAA has awarded nearly more than $600,000 in scholarships to 168 Georgia high school students and GBAA professionals. The window to apply opens October 1st. Please visit www.GBAA.org for details.

Jack Cooke Kent Scholarship

The Jack Cooke Kent Foundation Scholarship goes live on September 6th! This scholarship is open until November 20th. What type of candidates are they looking for? Cooke Scholarship recipients are selected from a nationwide applicant pool each year. As a minimum criteria, students must:

Plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2019
Intend to enroll full time in an accredited 4-year college in fall 2019
Earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above in high school
Receive a minimum SAT total of 1200 or ACT composite of 26
Demonstrate financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. Last year’s cohort of new scholarship recipients had a median family income of approximately $26,000.

La Unidad Latina Foundation Scholarship

La Unidad Latina Foundation propels students dedicated to advancing the Latino community from High School to College graduation and beyond. For more information on their scholarships visit their website at http://www.lulf.org/

UNG Cadet Scholarship

The state of Georgia funds 42 scholarship each year to Georgia students interested in joining the Georgia Army National Guard and the University of North Georgia Corps of Cadets. This means you can still have a full time job after graduating from college and be a part of the National Guard. Recipients of the University of North Georgia Military Scholarship (UNGMS) are even able to make $30,000-40,000 during their four years of college as a Cadet. This scholarship covers room, meals, tuition, books, uniforms, and fees and is worth over $70,000.
